Well guys and gals, we are on the road as most of you know. There are many pics out there already from the ELTA guys and from Phil.

Firstly, thanks Mark for the great send off, we really appreciate the shin dig you guys put on for us, very much appreciated!

Secondly, thanks Phil for your assistance with the windshield incident and for escorting us out of the city. It was great to have you travel with us for a while on Wednesday.

Day 1

We left Wayne (Rochie's) house about 7:30 on Tuesday morning and headed towards the Sarnia/Port Huron border. Along the way Bill's windshield in his 27 T cracked from the wind and the rough roads. At the duty free we stopped and taped it up hoping it would hold for a while. We hit the border and the guys had to wait for me as I got called in (again) because fo some bad guy with the same name and birthdate as me. So about 45 mins later I met up with the gang and we headed for breakfast in Port Huron, quick gas stop and we were on our way. About 20 minutes down the road Bill looked like he was getting tired of holding the windshield. Clarke didn't think he would want to hold it for the next 2000 miles so we pulled over on the next off ramp, found shade and pulled the windshield. Clarke had goggles that he let Bill use and we were on our way again.
We were off again.
A couple of stops later Bill mentioned that he saw a bolt, shiney, fine thread fly past his head, remember he has no windshield........well we didn't think much of it and we were off again. It turns out that nice shiney bolt was from Wayne's car. One of the rad support rods decided that it should exit the car but before actually leaving the engine compartment it put a rather large hole in the lower part of the rad......we pulled over did a diagnoses and got out the 2 part epoxy and bardall and patched the rad on the side of the road. John (Parklane) had a case of water so that ended up in the rad.....and away we go again.
We approached good ole Chicago and sat in traffic as we approached a toll road, paid out 60 cents (oh yea Bill ran out of gas in traffic so had to pull out the gas can) and then sat in traffic.....and sat and sat and sat.....we finally made it to an off ramp, got gas and took a different route to Schaumburg to our Hotel stop. On the way up I294 we hit rain....pouring rain.....with big bolts of lightning...we were soaked to the skin, except for Clarke....the poor guy got his arm wet!
We rolled in to the hotel parking lot and met with Phil and Jeanette who had been waiting for us for quite some time. We got dried out and then headed next door to the Denny's...somehow Phil arranged for us to have the entire restaurant to ourselves..thanks Phil.

Day 2

Well day 2 had few quirks of its own. The first of the day was breaky at the hotel and then headed to Rainbow Glass (a place Phil has used, thanks again Phil) for a quick windshield repair for Bill's 27 T. We arrived at 8 AM and had a custom windshield made 4 inches shorter than it was when we left home. It works great now, Thanks Larry! Phil escorted us out of town north and ran with us for a while. We headed down the road to Madison for gas and lunch and then the skies opened up on us (well on our cars at least) and man did it pour and pour and pour......when we finished lunch the rain stopped and we were off heading north towards St Cloud, Minnesota. We stopped for fuel somewhere between Madison and St Paul and John noticed that Clarke's shock and mount no longer needed to be on the car, the bungs for both bolts into the frame pulled out and were no longer doing any good. The shock and mount are now in the trunk awaiting repair.
We stopped and met up in St Paul with a couple of Clarke's buddies and while stopped Wayne did a little adjustment on his tri power set up. He is now running a single carb only on his tri power and doing just fine.
We booked it down highway into St Cloud for the night.

I see the umbrella is open in the car Jamie that is an ivitation for the rain. You are supposed to keep it closed to scare off the rain.Looks like you guys are having a good time.Good updates, keepum coming.
Homer

Thanks for the updates. Did you get the shock mounts fixed? Must be almost to Alberta by now.

wow, thanks for the great post, sounds like it's a road trip to remember! some good "shop" stories when you get home, and sounds like you've got the talent to handle just about anything, good luck and keep us updated:)

N2Roddin just a note from Victoria. Although we have been basking in 30 plus weather here it looks like by the time you guys arrive we should be in the low 20s for a better comfort zone. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Have a safe rod run.

Day 3

St Cloud, MN to Dickinson, North Dakota. A rather uneventful day but a blast just the same. Most of the issues seem to be figured out now and we booked it down the road. Had a lunch stop and rolled into Dickinson around 7 or so. The hotel we stayed in had a waterslide, there aren't any pics but just imagine 4 fat guys and the thinman!!

B, there is another Ontario group heading to Lethbridge from Northern Ontario but they aren't computer savvy.
