52 Lincoln Capri Build

Beautiful work. How do you feel about the headlights on these Lincolns? I always thought they were bugeyed and that the '54 Ford housings would be the cure?

Thanks, I was originally looking for some 55 olds bezels,as thats what a few guys did back in the day. Also the 55 lincoln bezels are an improvement also . I quit looking after my suspension parts and powertrain arrived. I'm more interested in that right now. I mocked up the fenders and bumper to see how much room I was left with and didnt hate the look as much.

latest update:
Filled in where the coil over shock cross member/sway bar protruded through the trunk and removed the spare tire dug out to make room for a larger fuel tank:

Ordered Flowtech turbo headers and was told they were an upswept design and turned out they were forward facing down swept. They were returnable but I couldnt find a upswept header for the coyote engine. Custom ones started at $1000 usd and I still didnt know if they would fit my engine bay. I decided to keep the flowtechs and reconfigure them. I cut them at the flanges ,added 90 degree elbows ,reversed them from side to side and came up with an upswept header.A lot of work, but I'm happy with the result.

thanks guys.
I new this would take some extra work to do this build ,the fabbing is the part I enjoy. No one has done this that I know of using the Lincoln frame. That was the challenging part. The frustrating part is my parts shipment to sweetgrass is cut off, and parts not sitting on the shelf in Canada can take months to get. The turbo plumbing is new to me but I am having fun fumbling my way through it lol

You do beautiful work Lee and there is a lot of it to do to make that Coyote howl! They are so WIDE.
Thought about one for the 56 Victoria project I had, but as you say, the motor is only the first thing required - the computer, tranny and the rest is no weekend swap. This will be a unique luxury howler.

Where or what is sweet grass.? Sounds like something we should all partake in..

Sweetgrass, Montana, a border town on the US side.

Just across the border from Coutts Alberta, which is about an hour south of Lethbridge.

Many southern Albertans use a warehouse in Sweetgrass as their "american" address to get either free shipping or cheaper shipping, especially on larger parts.
Once an item crosses the border, shipping costs are astronomical.

Was looking at that big hole in the firewall.. Several years ago we cut the firewall out of a 55 chev to make room for a big block and also set it back farther in the frame. We ended up closing the hole in with a steel pan from a wheel barrow. Had the right shape and was deep enough for what we needed. When it was welded in it looked like it was factory. Do not think the new barrows are that nice thick metal anymore. Your build is looking amazingly difficult....nice..

thanks for the replies.. Ill have to check out wheel barrows when I close in the firewall lol.
Got the turbos situated and tacked in place today, next up is adding the wastegates.

Ha..that is insane...do you think your going to run into any heat issues with the turbos that close to your hood? I do not now much about the turbos but I am thinking the heat from the turbos might blister the paint on the hood.. Maybe some kind of a heat shield on the bottom of the hood would help? Just a thought..

JB, I should b ok for hood clearance.I actually have close to 2".I will have heat insulation under the hood also. As far as blistering the paint, I wish, that would look cool lol.
Tim, thanks .
thanks for looking

I took a pic under the hood for reference later:

Hahaha Lee, “I hope it blisters”, funny stuff!
I am really enjoying following along with your build. The last one was quite interesting, this one has me checking in every time there is a new post!
Thanks for the porn.

Ok I am full of questions today...went way back and looked at the frame on your table. Did you pick a flat spot in the middle of the frame and level that to your table or did you use some other method or point of reference?

Thx, Gregg lol. As you probably guessed there is no plans for shiny paint (so far). My plans are original patina if I can pull it off.
JBG , I levelled my frame to the table at the mid way point of the frame ,clamped it down, levelled the frame rails front and rear ,jacked each side front and rear to level before adding suspension. Front was dead on, rear needed some massaging. There is a bit of flex in the frame and the body should straighten it out. As far as reference points I always use body mount holes, machine a bolt head with a center point and use that to check cross measurements and wheel base locations etc . Is that what you wanted to know?

That is exactly what I wanted to know..really like that machining of a bolt to a point...good tip..thanks.
