The Frame - Part 3

Taking Shape
We told you last time how Bob was shaping the rails. That is, forming the kickups and shaping the rails lengthwise. Here you can see the rails, now mirror images of each other, clamped securely for the fabrication and fitting of the crossmembers.

Bob is using 2" x 1" x 3/16" material for the crossmembers. All the material was cut on Bob's bandsaw after careful measurement. I guess!

Here you see a better shot of the first X-member in place. That's Bob's centerline floating below. It's critical to get this one right as it's the anchor point for the radiating supports.

After a lot of work, you should end up with something that looks like this. Nice and tidy work Bob. The geometry looks good.

A close-up view of one the center section spacers. Bob is taking his time and doing a nice, neat job as you can see.

Check this out ladies and gentlemen! Would you say this looks like a frame. Go back to page number 1 and compare this with the pile of raw material Bob started with.

If you haven't already, you can give encouragement to Bob by emailing him here.

Next time, the moment of truth as the body gets dropped on for a fitting.
