EBEAR: Yup, I agree, that SOHC is unbelievable !

Jump into the wayback machine, and have a look @ a Car (mostly for the Engine) that made the cover of Hot Rod Magazine back in an '08 or '09 (Don't hold me to that range:). The car was an '84 (Third Gen) Camaro, with a Nelson Racing Engines Twin Turbo engine. The engine is (or was at the time it was featured) pretty spectacular, and the level of detail on the engine compartment only added to the engine.

More pics here, showing the metalwork of the engine bay....

.......and some older stuff on the same car in another forum

Nice to see inline Chev engines but where are the Wayne's? Those cylinder heads make a trip to the backwoods strip worth the time.

This is an interesting old-school setup.
It's a 409-based BBC; this was what came before the Big Block Chevy.
The engine uses a Bill Mitchell Aluminum block. What's cool about that is it can use a normal BBC crank, rods, timing gear, and oil pan.
This allows a 4.250 stroke crank in it, combined with a 4.310 bore, making it 496 cubic inches.
The "W" engine design is different; there's really no combustion chamber in the cylinder head; it's actually in the block.
The cylinder head is relatively small for the displacement, so it won't break any records power-wise, but it's certainly different and cool.

Well, the 427 SOHC's keep popping up, this one, while not quite as stunning as the one from earlier this week, is still a super clean and well detailed example, and the '56 Vicky it's in is pretty nice too!!

As seen in a post in a group called "Blue Oval Muscle Cars"

me wrikey !

Took this picture last summer in Penticton, owner was from Coquitlam I think. For an engine that was basically an over the counter thing there sure are a lot of them out there.

Wow there's allot going on there . Nailhead ? Crank driven blower piped into what would normally be exhaust , exhaust exiting traditional intake and a bevy of stromberg type carbs . Please feel to correct me . lol

I can see the thinking here. Nailheads have lousy exhaust ports, so lots of boost could overcome this deficiency and the intake ports are good, so no problem there. Did they make a special cam or run the engine backwards? Criss cross the pushrods???

No details given unfortunately.
