Emergency opening tool for inside hood latch

A fellow on another forum a while back couldn't open the hood on a late 40s Chevy because the hood latch cable had broken. I realized that if that happened to my car, there would be no way to get at the latch so I designed this tool. I carry it in my trunk. Thought I would share it here. I bent up a coat hanger to figure out the shape required and then modified an old thin screwdriver. I needed the curve in it to clear the edge of the hood. To use it, I insert it "sideways" and then turn it so the bulge or curve is down. Then just feel around for the latch and push to open it. I slid some heat shrink over it so that I could mark it (red paint) to indicate how far in it needs to go to reach the latch. Hope this is helpful for someone.

Thanks for posting this solution. My '48 has the same issue and I've had it in the back of my mind that I should do something about it..

Don’t have any use for it right now…but it’s a great idea…one to keep for future use…
