INTRODUCTION

In this forum software, all uploaded images are stored in a "file system". That is, while the text is stored in a database, the images are stored separately. When photos are initially uploaded they are put in the "file system". When someone views a thread / post with uploaded photos, they are retrieved from the file system.

Images (photos) occupy a significantly larger amount of storage than text (the content of discussions). For example, the equivalent of an entire typewritten page occupies approximately 2 KB of storage. By comparison, a typical single image file (photo), after upload, will occupy between 100 - 150 KB of storage (that is, 50-75 times as much space).

The point of this illustration is that we should be judicious about uploading so as to not eventually incur extra hosting charges for additional storage. See "Important Note" below.

An Important Note:
Do not use the regular content areas / threads to "test" the upload process while you are learning how to upload / insert images. Instead, a dedicated "Photo Test Thread" has been started in the Admin Stuff Forum - About Photos Category
HERE. If test photo posts are found in the regular content thread areas, they will be deleted without explanation. Also, test posts in the "Photo Test Thread" will be cleaned up periodically so don't upload anything that you can't afford to have deleted.

METHODS

1) Direct Uploading

That is, directly from your device (your computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) This privilege is assigned to Supporting Members only.

2) Hot Linking
That is, linking to an image at a remote photo hosting site (e.g. Imgur, Imgbox, Google Photos, etc.) OR to another web site OR other web location (as long as you own the photo or have permission - do not violate copyright rules). This method is the only option for Registered Members (and is optional for Supporting Members if they choose).

For your reference, ALL Member Permission are outlined HERE.

LIMITATIONS

Currently, for Direct Uploads:
  • The original image must not exceed 6000 KB (6 MB).
  • The maximum number of images per post is set at 5.
  • If you are covering an event, PLEASE do not make multiple posts to get around the 5 image maximum but, rather, utilize a hot link to a remote hosted site.
RESIZING

The software, during upload, will resize the width of the image to 800 pixels.
