...Been wondering what sort of 3rd brake light to put on my 47 Ford pickup for a while now. Wiring kits of nowadays have this circiut included so why not use it. I noticed a kit on the market for installing lights in the top roll egde of pickup boxes. These sell for a hundred or so bucks, so I decided to make my own for cheap. Read on.
... I got a couple of interior lights from a mid 60's Ford pickup from the dump....
...Trimmed away the excess metal so I had a neat light socket, and brazed these into a piece of 3/4 inch conduit that is about 3-4 inches long...
...Then off to Princess Auto an got a couple LED type bulbs......
...These fit perfectly into the pickup box roll.....
.....Drill a small hole up from the bottom of the roll (out of site) and attach it to the conduit with a sheet metal screw...... thread the wire to the cab, connect to 3rd brake wire... its that easy.........

...Results........
Day light no lights...
Night time tail lights....
Dusk brake lights...
Night time brake lights...
