EVERY time I go on Youtube, something of interest pops up, and then you watch it, and something else pops up, it's like a dog chasing his tail, and a huge time vacuum:).....but if you come out the other side with even a smidgeon more knowledge than you started with, it would be wrong to call it a waste of time:)
I don't have a 3D printer, and it's not looking good in the short term, but who knows? Either way, some of the stuff they're doing is amazing , and the flexibility it gives you to create dies on the fly for not a lot of $$ and try stuff that would be out of reach if we had to pay someone to machine it, etc opens up so many possibilities.......

This vid has some items a guy might actually use, and there are links to thingiverse where you can download the printfiles.

Cool stuff eh! I haven’t yet watched through your links…but I have also been doing a lot of searching for information to stretch our ‘abilities’. We have a commercial Laser unit for engraving and marking. Now looking at 3D printing plastic as well as metal…likely will just educate up a bunch more so I can talk with the professionals about needs and wants.
One of the latest take-aways is that there is getting to be so much of this ‘specialty’ equipment and procedures available for the home-shop or person that would like to do a few things and market them. Cool stuff as I believe in the entrepreneurial mindset. A caution that there is a lot of cheap knock-off junk…with that there are limitations.
Maybe it’s just me, or as I keep “chasing my tail” or these internet “rabbit holes”. It does give me a ton more ideas!!
Thanks James…now more links to watch tonight.

Greg: I think the Vise Press Brake & the Tube straightener would get actually used if I had a way to print them.........

A few years back, I came across a "Free" file for a shop vac Cyclone (google dust deputy, or go have a look on KMS Tools webpage )

Anyways, being as I don't have a 3D printer, I called the Downtown branch of the Edmonton Public Library, as they have a "Maker" area. After calling and explaining what I wanted printed, and asking what it would cost to print, they had me send someone there the file, and what they quoted was a bit spendy, so I ended up buying a "WangChung" copy off of ebay.....well, like they say, you get what you pay for:) And I didn't pay for a Dust Deputy:(
The Dust Deputy's inlet/outlet are stepped, so that you just cut it back if the ends aren't big enough for your hose(s). On the Wang Chung, in order to get an interference fit on my hose(s), I ended up having to slip a couple layers of really big shrink tube onto the inlet/outlet and then shrink them to get them to say put. It works fine, but shrink tube for stuff with an O.D. that big is kind of spendy.....

In the end, I think if you bought one, you would find yourself using it, and probably printing things for others, so the payback may be there.

Here's my Cyclone Shop Vac Cart:

**And a Shout Out to Jason (TheBigM), as well as Scotty. Jason went miles out of his way to pick up the plastic barrel for me in southern Alberta, then dropped it off with Scotty in Red Deer, some time shortly after, we made a run to Red Deer and met Scotty for lunch @ Phil's (mmmmm Phil's), and brought the barrel back with us.
And I only just now noticed that the pic above shows the Rev 0 version, which failed miserably, as under vacuum, the sides of the plastic barrel would collapse inward:( Doh!!
Rev 1 has the two "ribs" from a 15g steel barrel riveted around the perimeter of the plastic barrel, and works just fine now:)

I too understand "rabbit hole" but for me its usually music. Oh and India farmer hacks. Talk about recycle!

A couple of friends have printers and from what they’ve told me it’s very time-consuming, and the hobbyist-level machines tend to need a lot of adjustment to produce a good-quality print. From what they’ve told me there are used printers that come up on Kijiji fairly often from people who either upgrade to a larger unit or just abandon the hobby altogether due to the work involved.

Thingiverse is pretty awesome though, and I have some stuff picked out that I intend to have one of my friends print for me when I get around to it, along with some stuff I’m designing myself. There are some great solutions for tool organization in particular.

Geezuz, going on YT is like wack-a-mole!! opened up YT while inhaling my breakfast, and this one popped up:)

**I've yet to watch it, so apologies if it turns out to be a dud.....

Went out to the garage, blew the dust off the Cyclone Shop Vac Cart, and took a couple pics of the Rev 1 modifications:)

.....which basically consisted of me cannibalizing a 15g steel drum, and cutting the the two ribbed portions off the drum, and trimming them to fit the plastic barrel, then a bunch of drilling, riveting with backing washers inside & out, etc........

The whole rig

Problem solved!
