strength of a 9"

I plan on running a bit of a done up Cummins Diesel in my hot rode. I was hoping I could run a ford 9" since it's narrower and already setup for the links I want to run. What do these rear ends take for power? Do I need to get upgraded axles and R&P? I don't really want to run the dana 80 that's in the dodge since it's so wide.

I think that a 9" will hold up to most abuse that you can put on it, although my cummins put out over 600 # of torque without using the programmer. Get a 31 spline rear, and if trhat isn't strong enough, you can get a 33 spline. What's this going into??

Ford 9"

This link has some good information: http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm

I do some drag racing and broke a couple of Ford 9" when launching at 6000-7000 RPM with a stick on slicks.

Some Ford 9" cases are a lot stronger than others, so don't pick one of the weak cases, and use at least 31 spine axles.

Detroit lockers can be somewhat noisy but can take a lot of abuse.

I'm now using a Moser case with Datona support and billet caps and can leave on the back wheels with complete reliability.
