....to make matters worse, tonights news showed the (reoccuring) potential of an Island shaker which 'could', as they say "drop most of the Island by a meter" .....

Then again, it could raise it a meter and the water would drain....

I suppose it is nice that people care, but only a small area of Duncan has flooding. Duncan and the whole area is not underwater. It's not like the whole island is in trouble. There is a trailer park around Parksville that floods every year, but for some reason they will not move. Makes for a good news story every fall/winter.

Friggin Lloydminster ab/sask AND Red Deer Flood every time there is more than 1 inch of rain... I know this because I have lived in both areas and work in the Fire and Flood restoration buisness. No body feels the need to put it on the news, because it is not news worthy, and just a fact of life. Yes people have thier belongings damaged or destroyed, most are covered by Insurance, the only time there is a problem is if they cannot afford to pay thier deductable, at which point we ( the company I work for) or thier ins. company will %90 of the time work out a deal where they can work thier deductable off by doing easy jobs to help with the loss. that way they can still be covered with no money out of pocket. They have been spoutin off that Van Isle was gonna fall off the continental shelf for 30 freakin years or longer. I grew up in Port Hardy ( yes I know that explains alot on my way of thinking ) get over it... the island isn't going anywhere in this millenium

Thanks for clarifying that. Funny how chopper 9 news coverage last night showing people getting moved out of their homes by row boats made me think of a couple friends I couldnt reach by phone or email.

In Victoria, we're high and dry. All the cars are safe. Some poor folks in Duncan have had to leave their homes though.
