Flathead head gaskets

I have a 255 merc with offenhauser aluminum heads. I have both copper head gaskets as well as graphite best gaskets as an option to use .Any tricks to ensure sealing and torquing the heads properly. Do you put them on dry or use copper spray or some type of sealant on the gaskets. Speedway suggest torquing the heads from Lto R or RtoL rather than using the stock sequence? Torquing , 20,40 to 65 ft-lb . Studs versus bolts ? Have had issues with sealing and would appreciate any advise as to the proper way to install the heads without going through so many bs methods . Thanks

45 pound torque is all you need. use the stock torque pattern and graphite gasket with aluminum heads.
