Hello, I was surfn' the net and came across this site.Canadian eh?Looks like the whole country is well represented! I live in Victoria B.C. (Colwood actually).Born in Victoria in 1950 and been here ever since.Graduated from Vic High in 1969.Did lots of jobs, but I've been a Bus Driver with B.C.Transit for the last 28 years.I was a member of the Pacers car club(in Victoria) and raced briefly at San Cobble Raceway.Tried building a Fiat Topolino Altered (long story),had a 48 Austin 2door at one time, same year Austin pick-up and a 58 Thames panel.Got away from cars for many years.Just got back a few years ago and am building up a 1948 Austin 2 door as a street version of the 60s Gasser.Have staight axle,327 ci.chev/350 trans, narrowed (55-64?)Chev rear end and flip front end.Oh Yeah and some real nice fender well exit headers.Boy have there been some awsome changes in this scene( especially hand cleaners)! This Austin is( or will be) the fulfillment of a dream.Hope to keep in touch.

Hi Kruuzin, Funny story about the handle. A number of years ago I was visiting some friends in Helena Montana. There was a fellow at the airport who was selling rides in a P51 Mustang ($300. for a 30 min. ride) I missed out on the ride of a lifetime (all booked up). The name of his plane was HO!HUM (at least thats what I thought it's name was).I loved that name for something so fast and wild. I swore, someday, I would name something of mine Ho Hum.I got a Drag boat but my daughter named it "WADDA HOOT!" So when I started the Austin that was my choice. Just last week I was on the internet and tracked down the P51.It's name was Ho!Hun.....( Captain Bringdown struck again!) I still like Ho Hum!

welcome HoHum, good to have another guy from Victoria on this forum. I always liked old Austin A40's, so look forward to seeing pics. There are hundreds and hundreds of car guys in this area, so lets see if we can encourage more to join - this is a great place.

Welcome to the sand pile.....Hope you find it a place you enjoy being around..

Welcome Ho-Hum. Nice project you got. Seems we had a lot in common years ago. Had a Valiant Altered/Gasser , straight axel, 383 dual fours, those days. Good luck on the new build and ask away if you have any questions. Lots of great folks on here with good advice, if needed.

Welcome HoHum from a fellow Victoria Guy. Not born here, moved here in 1977. I am a little bit younger than you (B-1956) and I have always been interested drag racing/nascar/hot rods customs/motorcycles. (I never had as cool cars as you did). Like you, I kinda lost interest in the late 80's-90's. I got interested again, and a couple of years ago got a 64 Acadian station wagon as a hobby car. It may not be as cool as a 32 Ford, but it is to me! (my 15 yr old daughter calls it a hearst... lol). Have fun building your Austin gasser! When it is done you should try it out at the 1/8 mile drags at Western Speedway...speaking of, it would be cool to have some sort of nostalga drags there sometime...

I too had a Austin years ago,red '48 tudor. Had a Buick v-6 auto and eight inch ford rear. Corvair front end that didn't turn too well. Was fun for a summer, but traded it for a nice '33Ford tudor. This was back in '79. Never saw it again .

Hi there are you making a tube frame for the car, or just adding a straight axle one to the old frame? Welcome.

28Abone, Took the Austin front end off at the fire wall.2x3 frame from the fire wall forward, then installed a narrowed (41" )speedway straight axle and speedway rack and pinion steering.Very clean and simple.Had some cross bracing installed under the trans to the Austin frame. Looks like it is pretty strong under there.Narrowed 55-64 Chev rearend with the parallel leaf springs. So, I have the Austin frame from the fire wall back.If I can ever figure out how to put pictures on the computer I will.
