I have been thinking about a 4-link setup for my RPU. I wanted to run my thoughts past the group to see if anyone can see any glaring issues. I've attached a rough illustration of what is lingering in my gray matter. Am I okay with attaching the bars to the kick-up of my frame? I haven't put together any measurements yet, this is the first step, but I wanted to make sure it was kosher before working out sizes.

Unless your blueprint is updated with more mounting holes to give your bars far more adjustability, then what you're really talking about is a "4 bar" set-up not a "4 link" set-up. Totally different animal.

You're right Tinmann, my bad. I meant 4 bar.

Just my 2 cents here, but wouldn't the bars be awfully short?I'm thinking binding issues. What kinda four bar are you thinking of,parallell or triangulated?

It's the binding that I'm curious about. I'm thinking of parallel bars but I'm wondering what the ideal length of the bars would be.

I agree, you frame setup might make it difficult to hve proper length four bars, maybe a triangulated system is the way to go - where the top bars go from the centre of the rearend off to the side of the frame. Look at the online catalogs of some rod parts companies for ideas.

I've measured a few 4 bar set-ups and it seems like most rear bars fall into the 32" to 34" length variety. Top and bottom bars being the same length. Unless you are considering triangulated 4 bar, in which case the top bars are typically shorter. With triangulated, you won't need a panhard.

check out July 2008 Street Rodder mag on pages 192 and 200. Both 4-bar set ups are similar to what your are thinking about on an extreme Z'd chassis. One uses a long panhard bar and the other one uses friction shocks with some pretty fancy bracketery to keep the rar in place.

Thanks I'll keep my eye open for that mag.
