Gonna go in to NAPA auto today to buy a single wire alternator for my Essex. I am running a Chrysler motor and want to put a single wire nothing fancy alternator on it to eliminate the voltage regulator etc. on the chrylser engine. What type of cars would these have typically been on? I know when I go there they will ask me what type of car it is off of and won't know how to look it up without a make and model. Younger guys on the counter! Any ideas, does not need to be real heavy duty as I will only have about 10 circuits to run.
thanks
Steve

Hemi,
I don't knoew the application but most of them are built using a Delco case ....so GM, BUT I don't think NAPA carries them. You an certainly try NAPA. Don't fprget about the Old car center

Most single wire applications are boats, stationary units or farm equipment. I prefer the 2 wire unit as when the switch is off there is no chance of draining the battery back through the alternator if you have diode problem. I could get the number for this type if you wish.

Hi Steve, took me a while to find the numbers. Lordco has 1 wire alt.
#AL530X. The one I prefer is the 2 wire, Cheiftain has it #37-7294SE3. The small exciter wire(from ign. switch) goes on the terminal marked #1. Hope this will help.
