We went to a small town where a friend had hired the show grounds in the town for his birthday and he put on a real shing dig, Terry had fire works and the whole 9 yards so to speak. He has done a lot for this small community and instead of bring gifts we made donations to the Bush Fire Brigade. It was by invite only and the bouncers who checked your invite were the Volinter Fire Brigade folks who patrolled the perimiter to make sure there were no fence jumpers.

You know the old saying you only get out of something the effort you put in well he donated a block of land to the fire service for them to build a new fire station and that would only be scratching the surface on what he has done there. Anyway here's some pictures from that weekend.

The surface was rock hard and fairly bumpy so I didn't do too many runs in the 33 and after another fella dropped his lower ball joint I sure put the 33 away.

B.J owns the Falcon ute, it is a top of the line GT version, he is one of the nicest young fellas you could come by and a real worker as well, I guess you don't get toys like this without putting in some effort. Yea that's me driving it there, when I put the 33 away he just told me to drive his ute so we swapped around in each of the events.

This lady had a ball in her Impala 396 and a real original car.
Terry got the yellow car in the background so the kids would have something to drive as well, we all had a go in that called the Daiwoo challenge, where you are blind folded and an observer sits in the back seat and your mate in the passengers seat would have to bark to make you turn, as in the barking sound a dog makes, 1 bark for left and 2 barks for right and when they would keep barking that meant stop, man there were some laughs.

B.J's ute at rest, this is a new car and the same to look at in the front as a Falcon sedan, just from the doors back is different.

Roland owns this real original Mopar, he bought it off the guy who flamed it, the car was only running on 5 cyl of the 6 flat head motor, he blew a tyre in the driving events. This car has something like 50,000 original miles on it because the car sat for many years after the original owner passed away.

The guy drives this Willys ute every day and in the background you can see we are working on the guys roadster who had the bottom ball joint let go in the driving events, that white ute is also a Falcon but a drop side tray, refered to as a tradesmans ute. That's me in the white shirt getting down to pull the old ball joint out, I guess Jan was thinking oh no not another white shirt getting grease on it, I stayed clean because it wasn't that bad to work on.

This little roadster is made up out of 3 different cars from stuff the guy picked up, the rear section is a Morris widened, I can't recall what he said the mid section was but the front is a 34 chev sheet metal, he wrecked out a car for the running gear and wheels etc so it can be done cheap you guys who don't think it can, and it looks neat as well, you just have to have the vision on what you want.

The Plymouth ute below is actually cut down from a car, just like the old days when you wanted a work ute.

Hows that a Chev and a Ford parked togeather, the Chevy is what was once a tourer but cut down to a R/pickup years ago and then turned into a rod.

The Caddi was a bit bent in places but the guy enjoys it.

When the dust starts getting too thick just bring in a water truck, that settled the dust for a little while.

This is dinner cooking, the reason for the studds through it is the heat from the fire transfers right through to the middle and cooks the pig nice and even plus the fat just drips out onto the fire, there were other roasts cooked on the other oven beside it.

You wont see anyone up here even remotely attempt to drive their stuff like that . I,ve always been impressed by the coolness of the Utes .
The only pylons a Canadian rod gets close to are the ones the wives set up at the cruise nite to save a favourite parking spot ..77.

The guy who owned this Pickup bought it out of America, the rear tire is a wide Micky Thompson I think it was and he has done away with the dual wheels, if you have dual wheels here it costs more to register the truck.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i311/JohnInOz/Terries60thBirthdayParty036.jpg
Terry's and Rhonda's camper, he tows his T bucket to runs and has his sleeping quarters with him as well, he is by no means a trailer sailer though and normally drives the wheels off his T but had it all cleaned up for the Rod show this weekend so you couldn't blame him for not driving it in the dirt. 1 night at a run they were playing cards and Terry had his back to the window and I was looking though behind him and giving Rhonda signs on what he had and when he would go to look around I'd duck down and Rhonda was laughing away and Terry couldn't work out what was going on until I started laughing as well, oh all in good fun.

Neat looking Dual cab, home made I'm guessing, I had never seen this one before and by the sound of it there was a diesel in the front and a flip front as well.

Owen and Trish's Buick, they do have a fold down top for this as well butthey have to travel long distances to runs and the hard top works better for them, they are B.J's Mum and Dad real nice country folk. Owne built this on a fine budget and it came up looking good to.

Austin Tail lights on a Chevy roadster pickup don't look out of place and are a nice small unit.

This fella had his Toyota ute decked up and it goes to show how you can get the feeling with the theme no matter what you drive or budget, looked alright for a Toyota

Rhonda is Terry the birthday boys wife, she has had this Mustang for a few years now and likes driving it. It has some mumbo as well and hauls, I've seen this car doing some burn outs at the odd occassion.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i311/JohnInOz/Terries60thBirthdayParty048.jpg
These people came up for the birthday and because it was Anzac day and this couple had taken part in the parade in town, it was a radio vehicle for the army during the war, it still has the original Chevy 6 in there, it's just a fly sh*t to short to fit a GMC truck motor in he was telling me.

This Falcon was found in the desert with no engine or wheels, he has fitted a 302 Windsor and there is something about the car that makes it one of a very few ever build. ABout a '62or '63 model

This 36 has some nice subtile changes made to it and is a cool looking car.

Isn't this just one of the sweetest 36 Ford Coupes around, it still runs the side valve engine.

Davey the pic with the ute crossed up is me driving, B.J. the young fella who owns it said just leave the traction control off and have some fun JT so I did, he is a real nice kid and at 18 years old he bought that ute with his own money, he's finished his time as a fitter and now works over in Western Oz repairing machinery and works 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off so it worked out well for him to be home for Terry's 60th. Terry had fire works and all the grog you could drink and all meals laid on, man it must have cost him a buck or 2 but he had a ball.

77 if you look in the background where the fella busted his lower ball joint there is a white ute but with a tradesmans tray on it. I know Holden ( the Holden is sold as a Pontiac in the U.S. I don't know whatthe Ute will be sold as there though) are supposed to be marketing their Ute over there but to be honest they are not a patch on the Falcon ute, the Falcon has bigger seats and a better all round package. That ute of B.J's is a 290KW engine and is refered to as a Pursuit. There is a bigger engine up from that as well I believe. They have to OHC V8 engine in them. I think if the Holden sells well there The Ford would as well but I guess it is like supply and demand.

Great commentary John. Looks like you all had a ball.
The Falcon Ute has the front sheet metal of a Ford F150 PU over here.
