On the old forum I conversed with someone about making a Steel Spider for the Studie, to be mount on the underside of the clip on the round rod spider web.

I have to apologize for my senility, it must be old age setting in.
The old PM's are gone and I can't for the life of me remember who I was talking to. You would do me a great service if the person I was talking to would touch base with me again. Thanks.

Hello Bullet,
I don't want to speak out of turn here, or step on anyone's toes, but I seem to recall it was the young fellow that attended Wyo-Tech that was interested in doing the spider for you. Is his handle "Buicklover" mayhaps?

Good luck to you, Bgbkwndo.

That doesn't ring a bell., but you maybe right.
All I can remember was the fellow started a thread showing us a bench seat frame he made out of a sheet of stainless which had large open circles incorporated in it, it was way cool. Does this ring a bell with anyone ?

Bullet,
If you can wait a few weeks I can shape one for you. All I need are the max width, heigth, and depth . Black widow OK

Rochie,
I was thinking it might have been you that I was originally talking to. Maybe yes, maybe no ?
What I had in mind was to use a solid bolt of steel to shape the spiders body. Drill and tape a hole in the underside of the belly so that it can be spun onto a threaded stud where the web strands come together at the nose.
I don't know of any other way to do it unless one can hammer the body out of sheet metal and close the underside of the belly with sheet metal, with a threading nut welded inside the spider's belly.
The legs will have to be made separately ( obviously ) and attached individually so that each leg touches a strand of the web. For the fabricator to get the right proportions of the spider to the web, I was going to draw the web to full scale with a radius circle of the approximate area the spider would cover and send it in the mail it to them.
I'm not sure if i'm getting the drift across as to what I'm envisioning.
I would chrome the spider and have in effect, an upside down hood ornament.

bullet just use a big rubber one, tie it on with a string and when you open the hood it would just be hanging there off the web :) ;)

Ooooo, scary. Not quite the effect I had in mind though. :)

Thanks guys for your brain power. I'll see if I can find him. I don't think he made it over from the old site.

I want to thank all the members who with their combined brain power steered me to the right person.
Buick Lover e-mailed me today and is going to take on the challenge of fabricating my Under the Hood Spider Hood Ornament. Too cool.

You could start a new craze.......... instead of "black widow" spider, you could have a "Billet Widow" spider:D
