I know theres some others on here who like WW2 aircraft, and if there isn't, shame on you! haha

I'm looking for a color image of a Avro Landcaster bomber, from above the aircraft. like the lower left image, but color and decently detailed:

I plan on getting it tattoo'd to my back this summer, and need a good image. I'm going to go to Chapters and see if they have a book.

OK, so here's a Landcaster Dam Buster from my model collection. Missing one the rear Ailerons ( needs regluing ) and does not have a Dorsal Turret like the photo(s) above, I don't know why, must have been because it was a Dam Buster..

My Dad used to work on the Lancaster bombers at Rockliffe Air Force Base in Ottawa in 1964. He was an instrument technician. They were used then for 408 Photo squadron for aerial photography I think. At that time they were having trouble getting them to take off as they would taxi to the end of the runway and not be able to lift off. I think they may have gone out of service shortly after that time frame. I don't think they flew them in Rivers, Manitoba in 65 when we were stationed there after they moved 408 squadron. Pat.

Fence,
There's a Lanc flying out of the Hamilton On. area. As a kid I used to see formations of Lanc's and 24's flying out of Selfridge A.B. in Mount Clemens Mich. It was a training base.
For all you guys in the Onion Patch, the Lancastrer has performed a fly over at Plunkett's show each year. This year the show is June 7/8. And he is having a cruise night on Thursday http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x310/Rochie_2007/backgroundII.jpg

The Lanc that flies out of Hamilton is from the Canadian Warplane Heritage and often takes members up for flights (as they do with all their aircraft) It is one of only two left in the world that still fly.
I often see the Lanc flying down low, following the Lakeshore over the Niagara escarpment during the summer.......better yet than seeing it is hearing it...those 4 Rolls Royce Merlins sure sound sweet.......You can hear it coming long before you see it...
Theres more info on the Lanc and their other war birds here.

My Pops was a supervisor in Toronto during WW2 where they built the Lanc. It was the old Ward Air hanger. I've got a pic of him and the crew that built it standing on the wings and in front of one of Lanc's just outside of the hanger. He couldn't get into any of the armed forces due to previous health problems so he went to T.O. to build planes. I still have the 1/4 & 3/8 drive socket sets they issued to the employee's then. And yep ..they are Snap-On. Not polished though. LOL.

The reason I'm getting the tattoo is to honor my great uncle Allan, along with all the men and women who have come before me who mad the ultimate sacrifice.

My great uncle was KIA, he was a tailgunner in one of the 'sticks' that flew with the 166th squadron. They were an 'elite' squadron of vetran aircrews that would fly in low over tagets to mark them with flares, so the rest of the bombers would have something to drop thier payloads on.

I used the Nanton webpage to get in touch with some really nice people. I know know where he is burried, I have pics of the graves, I know the name of the german pilot who shot down my uncle's plane, etc etc.

it's amazing the information that is still out there.
