Here are some pics I took today of an A-bone rat rod being built in sunny Whonnock, BC. lol. It will be Nissan powered and as you can see a whole pile of work has gone into constructing it. They were taken with my cell phone so they are not the best quality..I always thought you made calls on your phone and pics with your camera...must be getting old.

aaaaaaah NO 4 holer for this Dood, This'un belongs to the 'other Barry'. Can anyone say "huffed 6 banger"?? Rumour has it he also has a Glass Egg Trailer that could be bought fairly reasonably. He'll probably come to the Glass Egg Meet @ The Fort campground on Saturday, May10th along with about 66 other Glass Egg Owners, many showing up with rods too, BTW!!!!
Merc50, when ya left there why didn't ya stop by our estate, its off the other end of 272 though....LOL!!!!

if a rat has that amount of fabrication then i need to find a new classification for my rat--mouse rod maybe?
Way too cool.

Davey, I'd be the one 'closer' to Dewdney. Near Iron Mountain General Store. Messem overlooks Lougheed Hgy just about and above where Dave's 'Museum' used ta be.
BTW: "Stinky" Bob is comin back to the lower mainland to retreive his 53 and Boler to take it back to 'Snow Bound Country'.
He'll be here in and around May 5th, but when he'll be returning to the land of the midnight sun is beyond me.

It is a 30 Model A coupe, chopped 5 inches. Full double tube frame (1 3/4 x
.125 DOM ) with some 1 inch DOM for bracing. Roll cage is also 1 3/4".
Motor: 280ZX with five speed, Cougar rear end.
4" dropped, drilled axle.
Lots of sweat equity and not too much money in it.

Fencepost:
Bigots will screem about engines / running gear that isn't 'Merican Made, but some of us didn't grow up that way. I have had lots of cars in my life; British (both bad experiences), Swedish (good) North American (some good and some real bad), and Japanese (mostly good). So, I take parts from all types of cars , combine them into a hot rod and will enjoy the heck out of it. Slag me for it if you like.
Fencepost, why don't you post some pictures of your present project (if you actually have one). Let others pick holes in it.

Barry, the coupe looks great. Build it your way. It is after all your car. Hmmm, I remember a funny looking little guy in Mission had a coupe body just like that one before he moved to the flatlands. By the way, jump over to the intro section and let everyone know who you are and where you are from. Include a pic of the chopped ford too if you can. Pat.

Ones caracter is never so clearly displayed as when he is commenting on another..... To each of us our love for the ride is reflected in our pride and sometimes we forget where we tread!!
So use caution when stomping on the verbal gas before the brain is engaged....I comment from experience not to lecture

I'm sitting back reading the posts and am surprised at some..or one of the comments on Barry's great new car! I agree with one of the other guys, be sure your brain is engaged before putting your mouth in gear as it will come back to haunt you. I'm sure all of us have been down that road at least once. We all build our cars to suit our whims or personalities and obviously we are not all alike. I cant wait untill this car joins its wild radical ford custom brethern....the next build..maybe a chopped and very rad f-100? A lot of ppl dont like my Merc..and thats just fine with me, I did not build it to suit the masses, but of course I appreciate the adolations and awards it has won over the years and am thankfull for that. I built my car to suit me, and if someone else likes it, it is a bonus, if not, tough, they have to deal with it. Maybe I am getting a little carried away here, but it gnaws at me..but then again all of us are entitled to our own opinion. Having said that, I am goin to jump off my preaching box..before it collapses under my weight..lol, and go watch an old re run of American Graffiti on tv.

Looks pretty well built an thought out . Even tho I,m a mostly v8 kinda rodder . A Jap 6 cyl is usually a pretty torquey engine that,ll rob rev 6500 no probs an run circles around a regular domestic six cyl choice .
Theres guys out there that complain too many hot rods got belly buttons in em . Still, nice fab work goin on ..77.

that pretty much nails me.
If you read what I posted, I was being sarcastic. Now I know it's hard to decipher sarcasm in text... so I thought I'd better explain that.
I also said the work looked top-notch, I just thought it was strange he'd use an import motor? To each thier own, right?

I think anyone with that much forethought and obvious talent could put 2 hamsters in a wheel between the rails and it would still be ok by me.
I dont envy many people but some of the work i've seen on this site makes me jealous of the skills the guys have.
Keep up the good work (oh and by the way i had about 20 british cars and they were ALL bad).

Fordnutz.........thanks Pat. Sounds like you have a neat project going.
It seems like only yesterday that we drug the "A" body out from under your deck, but I guess it must be ten to twelve years ago (what year did you move).
Last Thanksgiving I told everyone around the dinner table that they had to help put it down on the stands before they got dessert. That was the start of a fun build. It makes me smile every time I walk into the shop. The radical chop is cool. The car will be fairly light weight and fun. I am trying to keep the cost down, the fun factor up. Not obsessing over things like I did building the Kustom. Feeny shows up about once a week to help keep me motivated.
After the "A" is a runner, will start back on the F100 so I have something to tow a travel trailer with and still have a custom on hand. The "A" will be my daily beater.
Will probably sell the '53 Radical Kustom later in the year (eleven years to build it and three years on the road; man time flies) Need the shop space, and can't see myself with that many cars to maintain as I get older. Some guys just keep adding to the shop, but I don't think I have the energy or the finances to do that, so must thin the herd.

To each his own for sure! Very nice work.
I've been playing very strongly with the idea of using the electric motor from a fork lift in a sedan. The area under the hood will be great for groceries. Top speed of 50 k / 30k distance when modified so basicly a day tripper.
Can you say Electric Rat?:D

I liked the Ford when he showed it at Abby Tradex still in progress (no paint). He spent as much time polishing that gem with W-D 40 and ultra fine sandpaper than anyone with a painted car spent on waxin theirs, LOL!! Sure glistened under those lights...

Giday Barry, I like the chassis work very neat, so why do you call it a Rat Rod because in my eyes that for sure is not a rat rod, it looks like a well thought out project. Those Jap engines get up and boggie and I don't mind the sound of those with a set of pipes on as well. But I am still at the moment a V8 Man and having said that as well I do have a 6cyl Falcon and with the OHC they get up and go as well as any V8. Ford out here had to detune the Turbo 6 Falcon because it was absolutely running rings around the Hi Perf V8 model.
I'd like to see some more pics of the chop.
Cheers and Beers, John
