Hey there guys and gals, I'm gonna give you the chance to influence my small mind.
I want to run either '48 Chevy caps on black rims with beuty(sp?) rings:
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/363/582f1tg8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
or just paint the rims black and run these MOON caps:
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/3118/mc0414af3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I can't see any reason why the MOON caps wouldn't fit, and I liee the look of them... but the Chevy caps would also look killer.

I like both..It would be easier to choose if you posted a pic of the car...Chevy caps look good on some combos...Moons look cool on some too..show the car...so we can see the macro...

What car are they going on, the Chev caps could be run on one side and the moon caps on the other until you decided which ones to run, I have a mate out here who ran Mags on one side and steel wheels on the other for a while to gauge the comments, this was after he had painted his car a different colour and because of the change a lot of people never picked up on what he had done.
Cheers, John

dude... don't cop out and buy some moons off the shelf cause they are easier to find. I'd rather see you run beauty rings with chrome lug nuts untill you find the right set of chevy caps. you might have a small mind, but keep it focused and you'll fool the masses!

haha, it's got nothing to do with them being easier to get ahold of! I can buy the Chevy caps new as well.
I've just always liked the look of the MOON's
I can't post a photo of my car, I'm at work, but it's a '53 Chevy more-door, shaved hood/trunk, shaved trim (just the centerline stuff, left the rockers) and it will be a copper-metalic semi gloss.
if that helps at all.

Chevy caps and beauty rings. Never did like those ribbed moons. They look like a cheap Asian copies that would collect surface rust the first time they got wet. You shouldn't have asked an old traditional guy!.

old&traditional are the only guys I want to ask! haha
I think I'll rock the Chevy caps, still need to get a set, and the rings. Who sells good quality rings?
With all this snow keeping me from getting my car painted, I've started thinking about the 'finishing touches' I'll make over the summer (not that the car will ever truly be done, right?)

...there is something extra cool about real nostagia vs aftermarket nostalgia.....the real stuff came out of 'makin'-do-with-what-you got' (i.e. caps 'n' rings) before you could buy aftermarket stuff...besides if memory serves me right, the trick moons came along in the early-mid '60's which seems to be a tad late for your period piece......$00.02

OK, one more thought. If you are into white walls, i like the '54 Chevy bel-air caps. Full size. Small red centers. Would look good with white walls.

Fencepost; You can get the caps and rings from The Filling Station or Chev's of the 40's.
The Filling Station is in Oregon. Price for a set of caps is 160.00 for stainless and 200.00 for chrome. The rings are 120.00 for a set.(stainless). They are ribbed. Check out their site.

Just occurred to me. Scott's Super Trucks in Penhold should have some caps and/or rings. Those caps shouldn't be too far off from the ones for the trucks, would they?
Old-Soul
04-25-2008, 10:54 AM
good idea, HRC22, I should call up Scott and see what he says. I know that the trucks 'caps were a little different, but not in design just the logo that was stamped into the cap itself. The truck caps just say 'Chevrolet'

Hi Fencepost, you can also try CAPS (Central Alberta Paint Supplies) for the rings. Their number is 346-6707 at 5825 Kerrywood Dr.

Thanks Scott, I'll go down and talk to them. I need to pick up my primer anyways
Moons just look cheap after a while. There's something nice about a set of early caps and rings that make a car look old skool.
I built this a couple years ago and always thought moons were perfect.... until I put on some spinners.

altho i 'am' swayed to the caps 'n rings,... (the lil' krusty merc will have 'em),....wheels really are a matter o' personal choice.... those spinners,.(on the right car),... can be killer.... but,... since i wuz a lil' wee gnome,.... i always loved "RED" wheels!!.... see pics o' zephyr even!.... this can possibly be blamed on '50merc',... an' other mentors sinkin' my rubber duckie in the the bath tub when i wuz just a babie!!!!.......................

04-29-2008, 12:53 AM
well, I might have to re-think my plans... I pulled one of the caps off out old pickup, it's the '48 cap, and it's to wide for my wheels!
my question is, did they make caps in different sizes? should I bother looking for some at the swap?
Davey_Joe
04-29-2008, 01:12 AM
f/p,... just remember,... wheels changed on the cars,... an' trucks,... in the late 40's fer a lotta cars,... they went from an' "inside" pop on to an "outtie" style.... the ones you show on page 1 o' this thread are probably "innies" from the late 40's.... sooooo, they ain't gonna fit on a later,...maybe 54 "outtie" style wheel!...... the trucks took a few more years ta piss us off,.... sooo,.......... unless yer playin' with full wheel caps...............................
Old-Soul
04-29-2008, 01:22 AM
the 'clips' on my wheels are on the inside, as are the ones I got this old cap off of... it's just that inside-diameter of the cap is at least an inch wider then my stock caps.

Go with caps and rings... I'm gonna get a few different styles and change them weekly... ;-)

I'll only need a pair of each as the backs will be covered by skirts when I'm done my mods.
