Just bought a '36 Ford Tudor. We would like to Chevy power it, probably with a fuel injected 4.3 V6. Will probably Mustang II the front end, but we're not sure what kind of rear end will fit. Any thoughts from the more experienced?

Yes most 8" fords seem to be close for length but if you want to get newer and your not running big HP try the 8.8 from the ford explorer the length is the same as the older 8" but easier to find and less pricey:cool:

Buicks V-6 is much torqier although harder to find. Gas prices going the way they are the six is a good way to go.

If you want to make the whole swap simple, why not look at a rearend from a S 10 4 x 4, or late 70-s early 80-s Monte Carlo/ Olds Cutlass.

We'd thought about an S10 rear end.
Is it near to the right width? In your opinion, would a 2wd work?
We had also thought about an Astro or Safari van, or S10, V6 with the fuel injection, wiring, computer, trans, etc, for running gear, how about a rear end from one of those?
It was also suggested to us that the rear leafs from a light Chevy 1/2 ton truck would fit. Any thoughts?
I guess we're just looking for feedback. We know a few rodders out here, but you can never get too many opinions, and this is definetely where the most experienced hang out!!!

P.S. this is the wife talking, hubby is already sawing logs!! 5:00 am comes early!!

a ford ranger rear end is pretty narrow and from experience, can handle small v8 power.

Don't shoot me for this one, but 2WD Toyota pick up rear ends are stout, narrow, relatively cheap, pleniful, and 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern. I've even run a Ford 7.5" rear end behind a warmed over Buick V6 and it never gave a minutes trouble. The idea of the complete V6 driveline out of an Astrovan would be slick.... lots of options.... thats why it's called "building" a car....

use a s10 4/4 rear end with its leaf springs they roll right under with same tracking as the original mind did this with a 350 chevy and turbo 350 and firewall set back 4 inch.I live in the big city of langford b.c.
