My new nieghbour has an Xcop ghost car for sale. Asking $800 it's a daily driver and sounds real nice, dual exhaust with turbo mufflers. Would make a reat donor for some project. If I wasn't so deep in restoring the Nova I'd like to have it for our 55 Pontiac 2 door. Any how if anyone wants I can go look under the hood to see if it's packin a 305 or 350. It runs pretty good I hear her peel out about every second day..hehe

Talked to the owner today. It's a 93, has 199 000 kms,a 305 looks like TBI. No rust, rough paint and a couple dents in drivers rear.

I do believe some of those ex cruiser's had a small block that was equipped with aluminum heads....Might have been the 350's though...

To my knowledge, no full size Chev (including the police package cars), ever got aluminum cylinder heads. Cast iron tended to be stronger and more durable, especially in the police application. Camaros & Corvettes did get aluminum heads on the LT1 & LT4 engines.

Mr.Clean, you are correct.

The 93 was a cast iron head, TBI, 5.7L. In the non-9C1 the motor is rated rated at 180hp and the 9C1 equipped cars had 205HP.

My buddy has one from the factory with aluminum heads...I am pretty sure they are not aftermarket..his might be a little newer though...

I've never heard of a Camaro or Corvette motor in a Caprice but my Father-In-Law was a service manager at a Chevy Dearship in Brampton years ago and he special ordered, from the factory, a Celebrity Wagon with a 3.8L from the Bonneville when the stock motor was either the 2.8 or the 3.1.

Just like COPO cars, anything is possible or maybe it was a special persuit option available to the police?

I ahve been told by OPP in the past that even into the 90's regular cruisers had less powerfull engines than persuit cars. But since this car is a 5.0 Litre or 305 CU.IN I doubt that it's anything very special as far as performance goes. Although it will make a real fine donor for someones project.

The only reason I remember they were aluminum, is because I lost $20 over it....LOL..I didn't believe him either LOL

I worked as a GM dealer tech for 16 years, and had the opportunity to work on several police package cars. GM did not offer an engine with port fuel injection on the full size Caprices until 1994, then from 1994 until 1996, when the full size rear wheel drive B body cars were discontinued, the LT1 engine was an available option on both regular Caprices, and 9C1 police Caprices, as well as standard equipment on the Impala SS cars from 1994 to 1996. There was also a 4.3 liter small block V8 with port fuel injection (kind of a downsized LT1), that was available on the B bodies at that time as well. All of these engines were equipped with iron cylinder heads when installed in the B and D (Caddy) body cars. The LT1 had 3 different horsepower ratings during that period. The Corvette engine with aluminum heads was rated at 300HP, the Camaro
Z28 engine with aluminum heads was rated at 275HP, and the Caprice/Roadmaster/Caddy Deville Brougham engine with iron heads was rated at 260HP.
As for a Celebrity with a 3.8LT engine, I'd like to see the documentation for that car. If it was a factory car, it was most likely 1 of 1. I know that there was a 3.8LT engine available on the Buick and Oldsmobile A body (front wheel drive) cars from 1985ish to 1988, but starting in 1989, the largest displacement engine that was available from GM on the A body (front wheel drive) cars was the 3300 (VIN code N), and that engine was discontinued after 1993. From 1994 to 1996 when the front wheel drive GM cars were discontinued the only V6 engine that was available was the 3100 (VIN code M).
Sorry for the long post, just trying to clarify some things.
