Bought a fiddy Chebby truck . Got an ownership with it . In the estates name . The owner owned it for like 20 yrs maybe . Was licenced and driven in his name .
But I got it from his widow , so I cant ask her and there doesnt seem to be any serial # tags on it .
Does any one know where the serial tag would be on a 50 chevvy 5 window pick up .
I had a 56 Chebby s/box s/side for like 6 yrs , sold it in 1990 . Dont remember any tag locationds on it .
I asked a guy I know who had a street driven 51 Chevvy for about 10 yrs . But sold it about 8 to 10 yrs ago . Just a blank stare was his reply .
Any ideas . Maybe stamped on the frame somewheres ??. Thanks for any tips .
Just if i get stopped for anything stoopid and cops /feds wanna see the tag.
I,m thinking it shoulda been on the firewall or one of the doors an somebody probably took it off ..77.

should be on the drivers side door jamb there should be the rivot holes there if it was removed, it seems to me the cars only had the vin plate on the firewall in those years and the trucks had the vin and cargo load plates on the door jambs.

Well. I didnt see one anywheres . I guess I gotta run to traceys auto wreckers and look at the 2 pre 54 styled trucks they have out there an see where it should be .
I have to get the truck apraised in order to get it reggied in my name . If they ask where the serial tag or serial #,s are I,m just gonna say I think its stamped on the frame somewheres ..77.

Not sure where you're at 77, but in BC if its not visible, it isn't going to be able to get the reggie. They gotta be able to see it.

Ontario . This just for an appraisal . Federales changed the laws out here . Any vehicle older then a certain yr . Has to get appraised . Even tho I have a bill of sale for 2 g,s from the widow and the copy of the check the bank gives you back , and she would come to lic office to say it was 2 g,s . They want appraisal .
You know the old story , buy an old car for 10 g,s walk in with bogus bill of sale stating 2 g,s so you dont have to pay so much taxes . Ontario now says older vehicles have to be appraised . So feds can get proper share of taxes .
This is just for the appaisal I need to pay the taxes so as to get it into my name as unfit , out of the estate name .
I may have to get it redone as a hot rod /rebuilt , or maybe a kit car licence / reggie . Who knows what they call it , with a n ew serial # made up by feds . It was an awshum deal , specially since it belonged to a friend of mine and I know every inch of the truck . And had allready planned out what I would change or fix on it if it was mine for yrs now .
Any hoops i gotta jump thru for feds now is just a minor issue or two . Usual big bro B/S ..77.

Ok Troops . Get a load a this . ..77. walks into local licence office with buyers package and ownership in widows name with the serial number on it .Package shows all owners back to 1980 no liens or stolen stuff.
I tell them what happened , bought the truck , got it home , no serial number , bought it from the estate , may be able to get in touch with the previous owner.
They phone head office , head office tells them to tell me to go to an key making or engraving place , get a new tag made up with the trucks orig serial number on it . Put the tag on the truck an carry on .
i was at a local wreckers , snagged a tag offa a truck thats been there probably like 30 yrs and a weights tag too .
I,m getting a gun smithing buddy of mine to pein down the numbers on the tag , then restamp my numbers on it . Then i,m putting that on the truck . I,m also gonna stamp the numbers into the frame .
I,m thinking Wow , this is either gonna work or I,m gonna be on the side of the road , jacked up by some cops.
It seems to simple ..77.

Wel , so far today I got a trip permit .No problems .
I scooped a serial tag offa an old truck at a local wreckers . My buddy who,s into gunsmithing is gonna mod the tag a bit then were gonna stamp my numbers into it . So it will look original . and put it in the original spot . I also got a weight tag too . I,m also gonna stamp my serial numbers in to the frame rail . Next week certification . I always take my rods an projects to a buddy,s shop to get done . Cause I work in an import shop , boss is a lil goofy about my personal domestics . He cant under stand why I,m never gonna own an import front wheel drive . V8,s an rear wheel drive , except for my winter beater . Its a 6 cyl inline grand cherokee.
Luckily the chassis that I,m puttin under my Model Eh has an old 3-5 page long reggie with it . Except its reg,d as a 28 essex or sumthin . I can probably get that changed though ..77.

I'm going through this same sort of thing, I can't find a serial # tag or stamping on either of my 2 41 (maybe) cabs or 1 chassis. I did get a Quebec ownership for the Dodge cab, and got it switched into my name "unfit" no problem. But the serial # on the ownership doesn't make sense with what the numbers should be, so I'm wondering if somewhere along the line it has been given a new one? It will be a long time before I have to get it safetied and on the road, so maybe I'll have to try your trick before then.

if you have the ownership changed into your name already all you should have to do is get a vin tag stamped with the ownership numbers to be legal,

Can you find blank VIN tag"s for Dodge's. I've seen them for Chev's like 77's advertised. I'm not too worried about that part though, I'd just love to know about the truck, where it was made, exact year, all that sort of thing.
Keep us posted on how it goes 77.

Working on the vin tag thi weekend , then off for a safety next week . If you want it too look all official , maybe try an get an old vintag oof a another old Dodge truck and use that . But I guess 41 Dodges are pretty hard to find for parts or anything .
Maybe try national mopars , or hemi,s only . They are both pretty good places to deal with .
I axeually hang around with some dudes that drive , ahem , Dodges . If you want I can ask them if they know any old truck places ..77.

Sure 77, ask away to your Dodge friends ( I bet they are reeeaaalllly good people! ), the more leads on where to get parts the better right?
I've got some time to search around for some sort of tag before I get it on the road, I only drug it home last weekend, and probably have 2 or 3 years of work ahead of me.

I got a couple blank vin's for my Studie off eBay.
My vin was so badly beat up I bid these ones I saw.
I had them engraved at a place that does trophy's.
Mind you my car / vin tag was from the plant in Windsor On. and the vin tags I got on eBay are from the plant in South Bend In. I doubt anyone will pick up on that, besides, the vehicle already has NS registration papers.

A little off topic but I heard that some old model T's and A's were never registerd in the dot so how would you raise an ownership for them/
