The front calipers on my 96 Chev truck are rattling over every ripple in the road. It sounds like a clapped out local taxi !!
I tried some hi temp silcon on the caliper to cushion the metal to metal and that lasted 6 months.
I need a better fix, any ideas ??

Hi Have someone step on the brakes.Take a chipping hammer and bend the tabs over againts the caliper this tightens the pads .You can also bend them before assembly. Bill

I dont know how the chevy pads are held in place but on my ford I had to replace the retaining pins that hold the caliper. It was just a slide in pin that was metal plate with rubber in the middle. Rubber broke downa d the pins were sloppy.

try changing the caliper bushings and o-rings plus the anti-rattle clip plus check for wear on the spindle wear the caliper rides.

Are you sure that the rattle is in the calipers? When you say that you put hi-temp silicone on the metal to metal surface, do you mean between the backing part of the brake pads and the calipers?. If memory serves, those pads come with the installation clips riveted on them, are the clips holding the pads to the calipers tightly? And last, but not least, what is the condition of the rubber bushings in the calipers where the caliper guide bolts go through, to hold the calipers to the spindle support? Did the rattle noise become apparent after brake pad replacement? These are some things which may cause the rattle noise that you're concerned about. Hope this helps.

Problem fixed.......$10 a side i bought a kit that replaces the rubber O Rings on the caliper mounting bolt. 8 O rings per caliper, a rainy night in the garage..... joy to drive again.
