The saga continues.

Took the car down off the wheel stands and it's now sitting on jack stands for easier reach to sand the roof. Built a wheeled cradle for the clip for easier movement and safety when it is off the car. ( needs bigger dolley wheels )

That is going to look wicked when it is painted, it would look good in any colour, you guys have done a top job on getting the profile right on that car Bullet.

what color are you planning???

bullet
04-09-2008, 07:10 PM
Thanks John,
Yes, the profile is definately right on with this car now, it was uckin' fugly from the factory with the stock high roof and short tail. With the roof chopped, it now has a cab forward look, the deck area behind the rear window became wider, making the trunk appear longer.

Obnoxious, After beating my head against the wall for several years, I finally had to make a decison as it's going to paint soon. I decided on a Sunset / Sunrise Orange, has some real fine orange, yellow and lime green metallic in it, topped off with a yellow pearl. Looks pretty sweet in the sun. I'll stay with the tan leather Infiniti interior for now, but may decide to change it to a deep butterscotch or black leather later.

Linc55,
Yes I believe you did show me that one before.
What I did on my side pipes was remove the rockers under the door and weld the concave halves of a 5" semi exhaust pipe in their place. That way my 4" side pipes mount under the car, flush to the door edge, hopefully eliminating burnt legs.

Yeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaw

Studie finally going to paint.
The underside of clip, fenderwells, painted a Sunset Orange, as will the rest of the car. The color really pops in the sunlight, with orange / yellow / lime green crystals through out it. The center of the clip, spiderweb and grill areas, will be painted a Semi-Flat Black, which I think will look pretty sharp. Perhaps later, air brush the spiderweb with silver and some hi-lighting to make it look natural.

Now if I can just remember ( sorry about that ) who it was on the old forum that was going to fabricate me a steel spider. Perhaps you can get a better idea now of what I was explaining about the web with these pics. And I'd appreciate it if you'd touch base with me again about the spider, thanks.

Bullet,
Do you have the chrome for the front end??? My opinion only and everybody has one, I think with the overall excellance of the build, flat black on the front end won't do the car justice. Flat black on the spider web you bet!!!

Please don't hate me!

Rochie,
The semi-flat black will only be on the underside of the hood where the web is and the backside of the nose sheetmetal. Other then the gloss black on the frame, running gear and underside of the floor, that will be the only semi-flat black on the car. The grills themselves will also be orange ( not chrome ), the only chrome on the frontend is the bulletnose and headlight bezels. Car will not have bumpers, not required in this province.

I'm really pumped today.
The clip is painted and sitting outside in the sunlight.

However, the photos don't even come close to doing it justice.
The pixel squares in the paint on these photos really bites.

You'll have to take my word for it, the paint is absolutely stunning in real life. The color really pops.

People have been stopping all morning asking about the color, which of course I won't divulge. All I could say was, that it's $1200 a gal. and it's orange.

I'd like to make a trip to the west coast with the car in 2010. The shake down run will be later this year, I hope, to get all the bugs ironed out before Tours East '09. I'm really excited now. Body should be in the booth soon, frame finished / painted, and body on by mid May. I was shooting for the end of Apr. but I don't think it'll make it. Not sure how long it'll take to get it plumbed, sound deadiner layed down, wiring strung, fired up, glass cut and interior in. As long as I have seats in and she's road ready, the interior can always wait. Atlantic Nats. in July, that's wishful thinking, I think. I may just take her unfinished on a trailer ........... heaven forbid.

Bullet, that is an exciting colour. It's a wonder you had enough blood for both of you to stand up when you got that in the sun long enough for you to take the pictures, did you feel all woosy. Wouldn't that be a great picture with the car parked in the snow somewhere later on. Man that colour would put a horn on a jelly fish. That is going to be just awsume when it's all togeather. Very nice indeed. I'm glad you went away from the black because it would not have done that car justice. Good for you. I guess it sure would look better in real life as well.

The first outing for my 33 was on a trailer to the Nats because the car wasn't finished at the time, no rego etc when they were just down the road from home. Mind you I did tow it in behind my Galaxie convert, (big show off eh) and the 33 wasn't finished, one of my mates who was doing the registrations stuck a sticker on the window, "trailer sailer", they all know how I feel about trailered cars.

At least you'll have your car there. It will pop some minds when they see that cool custom.

Cheers and Beers to the big effort mate, John

Why do you do this crap to yourself... I've watched while you have fought through several "misfortunes" and came back better than ever. To put a deadline on this build at THIS POINT is just crazy. Isn't this a 7, 8, 10 year build??? Let it be done when it's done, OK. I will see you in '09

04-15-2008, 08:49 PM
Thanks Rochie, John, Chad, Dale
You're right about that.
10 yr. build, I shouldn't rush it now.

Thanks to everyone else for the great comments on color choice.
I'm real happy I dropped the black and decided to go back to the color I original had in mind.

Chad, the frame and running gear is all black, as is the underside of the car.
The chrome, polished aluminum and andozied fittings on the engine will show up real nice against a black motor.

I tell you when I first saw that thing outside in the early morning rising sun, I nearly pee'd myself. I took a few photos at 7:30 a.m. and took a dozen more at high noon when the sun was directly overhead. WOW, the color leaps off the metal as you walk around the clip, it flip flops, it changes shades and hues like nobody's business. Just awesome.

Russ,
What paint brand is yours ?
Mine is BASF R&M Sunset Orange Carizzma.
I hate to admit it, people think I'm crazy, but it's $1200 / gal. I'll need 2 gals for the entire car.

E83w
04-17-2008, 02:32 PM
It is Sherwin Williams, Planet color called Mango Lite. Silver base and a coloured clear. It is 3 coats of base then 3 coats of the orange clear with a pile of clear over top.
I smell what you are steppin' in cowboy! The cost of this paint was right in line with what you are paying. The price has come down by half now from when I painted the truck. I also used a gallon of each base and colour @ $1200 each. I asked the S/W rep what the scoop was on the price difference and he said when they first brought it out they priced at what the market would bear!

Russ

bullet
04-17-2008, 02:45 PM
OK, I don't feel so bad now.
Funny how your base is silver and mine is an orange, with roughly the same results.
Yup, 3 coats of base, 3 of Carizzma and 3 clear. Still needs wet sanding and more clear. Did your color come with 3 colors of plastic crystals ? Mine sure flip flops, changes hues and sparkles in the sun. Cost me $600 just to do the clip.

E83w
04-17-2008, 02:55 PM
No crystals. Just all the flake in the base does the trick. Here is a shot of the flip in the bright sun when I first brought it home from being sprayed. You can really see the flip on the inner wheel tubs.

Found a decent gas door hinge that I'll use to hinge the left taillight bezel to access the fuel filler spout. Body may not go to paint after all this week. Will have to see how much of a problem the taillight hinge will be to mocked up and weld in place. But you're right B-Bob, I can hardly wait also. Soon, very soon.

bullet
05-07-2008, 08:26 PM
Rethinking plan of attack on painting the body.
Decided best to set the body aside and finish the frame.
Will finish up welding all the frame, sandblast it, paint it, put the running gear back in and plumb it.
Then the body can be painted and place right on the frame.
So, for those that are waiting to see the body in paint, well, we'll all have to wait a little longer for that.

Was getting the headlight buckets and pots painted, new light sockets installed and just generally getting the headlights assembled to bolt on the clip. Found one of my newly chromed bezels was either stepped on or dropped at one time and the headlight hole is oblong. P!ss me off. Headlamp doesn't fit the bezel hole. Good thing I have another set that I'll have to chrome. Will sell the first pair as drivers, but emphasize that they're not show quality.

Anyway, Barb and I are off to the Atlantic Baptist Universary ( ABU ) in Moncton this weekend to chaperone our teen youth group at the Christian Youth Conference.
Cheers.

Back from ABU in Moncton and the Christian Youth Conference, was a lot of fun and the 2000+ teens really enjoyed themselves.

The frame was painted gloss black over the weekend while we were away. Will post pics tomorrow. Will start putting everything back onto / into the frame next week. I'll have to lightly grind smooth the tranny / debur it, and paint it before it can be bolted up. Will most likely do that tomorrow.

Again, thanks for your support and comments, makes everything seem worthwhile.

bullet
05-12-2008, 01:13 PM
Oh Yeah B-Bob, Hurrah ! !

Some of you maybe wondering why there's no bottom to the driveshaft loop, well there is. When trying to exit the shop door, there's a slight incline right at the doorsill and the bottom of the loop got hung up on the floor. So if it got hung up on such a small grade whats going to happen when I'm driving it. It was cut off and a piece of flat bar add across the bottom to replace the lower part of loop. You can see the flat bar in the 4th pic. Lowered the rearend / suspension to it's lowest point to see if the driveshaft would clear the bar, and it did.

Went ahead and deburred the tranny of aluminum casting slag, zinc chromate primered it, and painted it black this afternoon. I'm on holidays for a week, so I'm hoping to start installing the running gear.

bullet
05-14-2008, 03:51 PM
I'm not sure why the deep pan Bob.
It was hooked behind a 427, so that may have something to do with it.
The pan is a B&M. The tranny put a fully loaded Monte Carlo with a 580 hp 427 through the quarter mile in the mid 11's, not to shabby, so I know it's a good tranny. It came with a 3000 stall and I also have a tranny cooler in front of the rad and AC condensor for added cooling.

b-bob
05-14-2008, 04:43 PM
Maybe all those 'go-fast ' parts just take up more room. Or it requires more fluid. I don't know. We need a trans guy to step in here.

bullet
05-15-2008, 02:01 PM
Bob,
I was talking to the fella I got the tranny from and he said that the big pan was for extra fluid to handle the 580HP 427. Equipped with a shift kit and other performance goodies, was an expensive tranny to build.

What's with those Mother's Mops ( whatever they're called ) you see people like Foose & MacQuire's advertise for removing dust when at a show. It looks like the same material used in commercial floor mops, Raggety Andy & Raggety Ann dolls hair.

Hi bulllet, I like to use a "california duster" for a quick dusting. There are cheaper imitations available, but you get what you pay for. I also buy "quality" wash mits and rinse them well after each use. after a wash, I use a "water blade" to remove most of the water and finish up using a chamois called "the absorber", available at C T C etc. Tom

bullet
05-19-2008, 06:34 PM
Thanks Tom,
California Duster - ah ya, that's what they're called.
Where abouts can I pick one of those up ?
I've been looking at several different types of mits and chamois lately and as long as I hide them from the rest of the household, they'll stay clean and dirt free.

Hence, hiding it from the rest of the household. If it's for the Studie, that's all it's going to be used on.

Perhaps, you should let her have that one and go get another for the ride.

Bullet,
you've seen that black car of mine...it's MUCH harder to keep clean than the orange will be on your stude. I do much the same as stil38 I use a California Duster and then wash with a good mitt. I have another mitt for the wheels, tires, and engine bay. I don't use a squigy/blade to finish off. I use the "Absorber" (trade mark). It's a synthetic camois that you wring out after use and store damp in it's tube.
I only go after the finish of my car once a year. I use 3M products. After washing the car, I start with a clay bar and some cheap spritz and shine for lubriction of the bar. The best polishing compound I have found is 3M's "Finesse-It II ". I use a 7 inch buffer/polisher with a foam pad to apply the compound. Make certain you don't get compound ridges cuz they are a bear to get rid of. Once done with the polishing I use their "Hand Glaze" #06066. The trick I've found with hand glaze is to not let it dry to a haze. Use a cotton polishing cloth to bring it to a really nice high shine.

Mind you I do have a set of coil-overs I could swap with to see how she'd fair at the 1/4. Someone had a wheel dyno at the Greenfield Track last year, it'd be interesting to see how much the Studie has at the rear wheels.

Just a question, but doesn't it seem to be a lot of yoke sticking out of your tanny?

Yes it would appear that way.

I was somewhat worried about it when I first saw it but was reassured by the people that made the driveshaft for me that it would be fine.

John in Oz
06-06-2008, 06:32 PM
Bullet, I see what Kanuck is talking about there, do yourself a favour and just check to make sure that there is plenty of the yoke inside that Trans, it does look like it is sticking out way to far, the reason I mention it is I bought a Brand New Commodore once and it always had like a rumbling through the car and I kept telling the dealer it felt like a crook Uni, anyway one day when it was in there having a service I asked if I could just go and take a look and sure enough the yoke was just like yours but only into the trans by about 1/2" so next thing you know they were getting a new tail shaft (drive shaft) made. The other thing is what happens is it gets like a whipping sensation happening and the next thing you know you will be chewing Uni joints. So mate really check that out, it should go right the way in and then pull it out about 1/2". Now is the time to do it while you can get at the thing.

I hope you don't think I am being a smart Alec but it really is worth doing that while it is nice and easy to get at without marking paint etc. Also make sure that the Uni's are set up the right way as in cross's are set in sync and not crossed or you will also get a bad feeling with it and premature wear on the Uni's.

Cheers, John

I know what you're talking about John.
I had that shaft made up yrs. ago to fit and it was, like you say, all the way in and pulled back 1/2". Then fate had it that I add the Tru-Track setup on the front of the motor for bling which added 2" in the front, no rad clearance. To clear the rad I moved the motor and firewall back, and had the shaft shortened 2". When it came back to me this is how it was, 3" taken off. I was concerned about it at the time and was assured there wouldn't be a problem because there's still half the yoke and then some inside the tail shaft. I'm starting to think now that they made a mistake with the measurement and I was told not to worry because THEY didn't want to replace it with a new drive shaft. If there is a problem with vibration and the like, I'll have to reinvest in a new shaft when I get it out on the road. Can't afford a new one right this moment. Shit happens and this would just be another fly in the ointment, added to the many yrs. of frustration on this build. The pain and suffering comes with the territory, meaning, I'm pretty green at the hobby and this will just be another faux pas chalked up to the learning curve.

But let me ask you ................... if what you can see of the yoke is also the same amount of yoke you can't see inside the tail shaft, do you think I'll have a problem with the way the yoke is now ? Also, the universals are in sync.

John in Oz
06-06-2008, 07:19 PM
Bullet just looking at those photos at a guess I would say you would be flat out having much more than 1/2' inside the trans, think of it as a ballance thing, you must have more than at least 3/4 of the yoke inside the trans than outside other wise you will still get a whipping motion and then at worst a smashed rear off the housing of the trans or a hole through the floor of the car from where the uni could break and drop the tail shaft. I'm not trying to scare you but have you ever seen the mess a dropped shaft can make. So it is well worth taking the dollar out of the church plate (an old saying we used to use) and spending on the rectifying the problem now while you can. Just check it and if it is going to postpone the project another week from being on the road then so be it. After all your hard work over the years don't drop the ball now for the sake of a couple of bucks. I'll send you a P.M.

Cheers, John

John, I'm going to mark the yoke, unbolt the shaft from the rearend, and pull it out. I'll know then just how much yoke I do have inside the tranny.
It's sure going to piss me off if I have to have another shaft built now, when I need the money to get glass and other essentials.

I want to thank Kanuck for the initial spoting of the yoke being so far out of the tail shaft and also John Oz for his advice on how it should be.
Thanks guys, much appreciated for the commrodderie.

I taped the yoke at the tailshaft, unbolted the diff. end and pulled the trans yoke out. The yoke is 4 1/2" long. I measured from the tape to the tranny end and then fromtape to the universal side. What I ended up with was a 50 / 50 split, 2 1/4" in and 2 1/4" out.
I'm now looking to see how far in and out the yoke goes when I have the air bags fully inflated and deflated. I'll most likely get a new driveshaft made and rebalanced, just to be on the safe side.

OK did some more investigating the yoke thing.
I extended the rear suspension to it's fullest with the Shockwave Airsprings attached and found only 1 3/4" remaining inside the tailshaft, definately not good. The driveshaft is going with me tomorrow to town so they can build me a new shaft to the proper length.
Shouldn't cost me too much, a new tube, reweld the yokes on and balance the shaft.

Kanuck,
Never feel guilty at mentioning an obvious flaw in design, which in the long run, may have just save a life, MINE. :)

Thanks guys for all the cudos. I don't plan on rushing it now that it's in paint and I'm so close to finishing it. I have till next summer to get it together, so slow and steady as they say. First things first, I need to touch up all the black from overspray, the painter was in a hurry, and most likely pissed at me for bitchin' at him, and he decided NOT to mask off the interior. Need to tweek the body on it's mounts a little so the gaps at the firewall of the front clip are right on. I brought home the trunk lid today and will pick up one door tomorrow and the other on Fri. Still need to paint the inside window moldings and dash, but that can happen any time. Although I'd sure like to get the steering column and gauges mounted.

Anyway thanks again, I'm sure stoked right now. I'm off to the barn to damp cloth the interior of overspray dust and repaint the floor(s) and interior panels. Haven't started it yet, working on getting air to the bags first. Still need to get fuel line through trunk floor to tank. My 1" bit went dull drilling fuel line holes through crossmembers, I'm getting it sharpened. As I said earlier, some things went missed during mock-up and holes through the frame rails was one of them. Once I get the AirRide functioning, fired up and moving on it's own power, I'll be sending her out to have glass cut.

I'm still concerned about inner fenders being an issue for MVI ( but also told vehicle of this age doesn't require MVI ). Either way, I'm working on an idea to run flat oscillating MC fenders over the front wheels, as long as I have the clearance. Mostly to keep engine bay clean(er) and prevent stone chips on firewall.

I should be good to go for Tours East '09.

Had last week off and got a lot done on the Studie.
Wired in the ignition and rolled the motor over but did not fire it up.
I've asked someone in to check my wiring on the MSD Ignition, MSD Timing Controller & MSD Knock Sensor. Want to make sure everything is right before running juice through those components, don't want to burn anything up, especially the car. Fuel tank hooked up, e-brake cable completed, made a bracket to hang the tranny cooler lines, still need to bend them to fit around motor to the cooler on the front of rad. Still need to complete the front brake lines, it's complete from rear to master. AirRide all hooked up and waiting for motor to fire, I could wire it to the igntion and send power to the compressor without the engine running. Will try that this weekend if my electric guy doesn't show. Once under it's own power I can drive it out of the barn and get some decent photos. More to come.

The chopped roof, tilt clip, 18" wheels and 4" side exhaust really makes the look.
Fired her up this morning after some worried / tense moments why she wasn't getting any fuel.
After getting some sound advice from you folk, testing the pump with a jerry can and then blowing into the vent port to presurrize the tank I had fuel flowing free down the line to the pump.

Thanks guys, took a little while to get her fired up for ya all.
Will put it on Utube as soon as I find someone who has Firewire on their computer to put it to disc.

Got a question for anyone that can answer it.
When I turned the key off, the motor kept running ( not run on ), had to manual choke it so it would stall, and die. I must have the coil wired hot off the ignition or something of that nature. Also I could hear a clicking noise at the coil with the ignition off when I was playing with the distributor. Any clues to what I might have wire wrong.

Well ...... not really ............ only wire instructions that came with the Ron Francis kit. I did what the kit said to do. It's all tagged, match name & number to the fuse panel. I have an MSD 6a Ignition schematics with several choices as to what your motor is and what you're using it for. But I also added a MSD Timing Controller to it and you have to match one schmatic to the other. Couldn't quite get a handle on it so I called MSD Tech Line and they advised me on what wires were to be used and what ones to ignore. So I'll need to re-examine the wiring on that part of the ignition.

Ralf Motorsports
10-11-2008, 09:17 PM
Are you running a 3 wire or 1 wire Alternator?

bullet
10-12-2008, 07:37 AM
Now that's where we may have another discussion.
Out of the MSD distributor and what MSD calls the Crank Tigger there's a 2 wire plug. But because I have an MSD Timing Controller involved in this part of the ignition, the 2 wire plug from the distributor plugs into it and the 2 wire plug from the MSD 6a Ignition box ( where the Crank Tigger would go normally ) is to be ignored, according to both schematics and what MSD Tech had to say about it.

I'll be going over the entire first page of the Ron Francis instructions on how to wire for ignition right after I get back from church. Anyone else wanting to make suggestions / recommendations I'd greatly appreciate the help. Now that's providing you're out of bed by the time I get back this morning, I am 4 hrs. ahead of the west coasters, so that's a given.

OK, took a little while to get the file small enough to upload to uTube.
Edited quite a bit of useless stuff out.

I must say right off is that the air bags are at full height, this is not the ride height. I think I'll lower the rear mounting brackets down a hole so it's not so high when fully inflated.

First thing you'll see in the video is the Linear Actuators opening the Tilt Clip. Then, I manually operated the Air Bags to set the car down in the weeds. I haven't program the computer yet to do it when the key is turned on or off.

Also had the coil wired hot off the ignition, so when the engine started it wouldn't shut off and I had to choke it to stall it.
Have since figured where I went wrong there and now it shuts off as it should.

Anyway folks, this is been long in coming so I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Wishing it could have been recorded better, you'll get the drift.

Awesome job from start to finish (almost there!). I enjoyed your web site too. I think you should call it Studeshaker (or maybe Shakenbaker)

Now that's funny.
'SHAKE n' BAKER', I like it.

Thanks guys for the kudos.
With winter coming on and an unheated barn, the Stude will sit idle for 6 mos.
I'm crossing my fingers that a big push in the spring to get her road ready will land me at the Atlantic Nats and the '09 Tour in time.

After looking through your album, I remembered the Frankenstude, and I think your ride is every bit as cool and needs it's own signature.
I think it would cool to do it in the same script as the original Studebaker logo.

Hi Bullet,
Great looking car, and I think a great accessory for the driver of this vehicle, would be a Studebaker wrist watch. A friend of mine, who collects time pieces, has one.

The Studebaker logo maybe something to think about. Perhaps painted in ghost relief on the rear of the car.

As for my car been every bit as cool as Frankenstude, I'm flattered. I do think it's cool and there are some one off ideas by myself that went into the car. However, a lot more professional fabrication and design went into Frankentstude's construction, which I humbly admit, hardly warrants mine in the same league.

The designer Thom Taylor, approached Boyd Coddington, but Boyd took a pass. Later, Thom mentioned it to Prior Lake, Minnesota-based race car and rod constructor Greg Fleury. Fleury floated the idea to Minneapolis fine art printer Steve Anderson, who was looking to have a radical car built, and a deal was struck. Thom's drawings were published, and the project began.

Working alone, Greg built the body. He started with a 1948 Starlight coupe, adding a '51 nose and hood, '50 front fenders, and '47 rear fenders. Every panel was massaged to match Thom's drawing, and the door skins, doorjambs, roof, and rocker panels were fabricated from scratch. The bare-steel body was shown in 1992, but it would take almost another five years to complete the car.

Much of the delay was caused by engineering problems that had to be solved. Greg welded the nose into a flip-front-end unit, and engineered it to raise up, move forward, then tilt open with the push of a button. To make the doors open scissor-style, he designed them to first move out away from the body, then turn vertically.

Other body components consisted of Harley-Davidson mirrors, handmade taillights, and custom glass. Town & Country Glass cut down a Pontiac Grand Am windshield to fit and cut the door glass from Ford van windshields.

Thom's design called for the Starlight coupe's characteristic four-piece wraparound rear window to slant forward. The glass was custom-made in two pieces by Glass Pro of Santa Fe Springs, California. A bulletnose was cast in brass to mimic the '50's design, but it replaced the stock "Studebaker" relief with "Frankenstude" lettering.

Though Frankenstude exhibited the radical bodywork of a custom, it would have the engine and chassis of a hot rod. Greg completely fabricated a race car-like 115-inch-wheelbase tube chassis with an integrated roll cage.

Greg designed the tube frame to double as the exhaust system, and installed a Chevrolet L-98 V-8 crate motor. Cotrell Racing Engines of Chaska, Minnesota, tuned the tuned-port-injected 350-cid engine to 400 horsepower. Greg mated it to a GM 700R4 automatic transmission, as well as headers, exhaust pipes, and a driveshaft that he fabricated.

Thom envisioned all-wheel drive, and Greg made it work by using a GMC Syclone all-wheel-drive center section up front, an early Corvette center section in the rear, and a GM all-wheel-drive transfer case. Four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes were added.

Inside, Greg scratchbuilt the dash, and had it upholstered in bone-colored leather by Bobby Griffey, who also did the seats. Keith Nybo upholstered the door panels, and installed the headliner and carpeting. Vintage Air air conditioning, gauges by Classic Instruments, and a one-off Boyds steering wheel on an ididit steering column completed the interior.

The final touches included custom-mixed House of Kolor Frankenstude Purple paint sprayed by Rand Bailey and a set of 17-inch billet wheels custom-made by Boyd Coddington. Six-and-a-half years in the works, several scale replicas made it to market before the full-size project was complete.

The finished Frankenstude made its debut in an exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Within the car community, its unique design, complex engineering, and robust performance potential made it a hit. Frankenstude, like CadZZilla™, helped launch a new wave of customs conceived as a modern take on '50s cars.

Well it's being a while since I posted any updates.
As I mentioned on a post the other day, the Studie is waiting for the Automotive Engineer from NB to be in the area to have the frame certified.
The Stude won't make the Tour I'm afraid, but I'll catch up with the tour at the A&W in Dartmouth, Thurs. July 9th.

Here are some pics of the dash and seats in the car. A little more wiring to do, doors to be bolted on, PW and door poppers to be installed.
Air bag in the side of the passenger seat was deployed, so I need to find a way to ( glue ) or close the flap. I was thinking about removing the air bags in both seats and putting speakers in their places.

Having a hell of a time lining the trunk lid up. It was fitting perfectly during the sanding process but now that it's painted it don't want to co-operate.

Sure is looking good there Bullet.. funny thing that paint, it always seems to throw things out of whack when it comes to final assembly?? Its a wonder how something so thin can make you go crazy when it comes to final fit!!! lol must be some unwritten law or somthin?

Sorry John, I would have liked for you to have seen her ( and of course, everyone else too ).

Got the lid to fit a wee bit better but it's still not far enough back on the passenger side. May have to removed that hinge and make the holes longer for more back adjustment. I don't know why it doesn't fit now, I tried every combination of adjustments with the hinges, up / down / back / forward, nada. I don't get it.

I wish .......... but slapping doors on her ain't going to make it legal. :(

It was good to see you folks that attended the A&W Cruise-In in Dartmouth,
I wish I could have brought the Studie for her first unveiling. However, still have some ways to go before she's road ready. With all the anal crap this province has adopted of late, I have to wonder how some of the ratrods I saw at the show made it on the road.

The Stude with doors.

It's in my backyard, and I've still yet to see it in person...lol.

By the way, with that being said, it was great to meet and talk to some of the guys from the forum in Dartmouth. I had a heck of a time, and I'll definitely be more on the forum as time progresses.

Thanks heaps, appreciate the cudos.
Still waiting for that elusive Automotive Engineer in NB to book me an appointment to have my frame certified. The Stude will not see the road again this summer.
The trunk lid is still giving me grief, will not sit far enough back in the hole, and sits too high. Will have to dick with it some more.
Glass to cut yet and a little bit more wire to run, door poppers, pw kits, tail lighting.
And here's the kicker .......... paint is off in places, painter screwed up big time. He's agreed to shoot the entire car again, and so he should.
Major bummer.

It's being a long rocky road to get here, so I figure she'll give me a few more hiccups & heartaches before she's through. But I'm not going to sweat it.
She gives me great pride & joy to look at her now, from when she was first brought home in '98.
