rockin-bones

I'm very reluctantly having to part with my '48 Buick sedanet....have to downsize.
For sale is a fairly rare, beautiful 1948 Buick sedanet, model 56S.
Classy 1940s maroon color accentuates the streamlined “jet back“ design of this era of big “King of the Road” American cars. All maintenance/restoration work on car professionally done. Passed British Columbia government inspection in fall of 2008 & is licensed and on the road. The car has been lowered 2” front and 3” rear (cut coils up front; ’78 Monte Carlo replacement coils in rear) and has Hollywood flipper hubcaps to give it a bit of a 40’s taildragger look.
Has original 248 straight 8 engine w/ 3 speed column shift. Here is a rundown of condition of the car and the work that has been done to date:
Interior: Excellent condition; sun visors, headliner, seats, & carpet recently re-done in original colors (grey w/ maroon trim) & with original material. Saetbelts installed front & rear.
The wonderful dash features chrome-bezel gauges, a Wurlitzer-jukebox style Sonomatic radio (that actually works!), and a whimsical art-deco clock that has a mock odometer reading “BUICK”.
Glass is good all around.
Power plant: Original 248 straight eight engine. 6V electrical system. Engine starts right up and runs well. Complete tune up done in late fall, 2008. The following engine work as been done over the past two years:
-New radiator core ($600)
-NOS water pump installed
-Rebuilt generator/starter
-Valves adjusted
-Complete tune-up w/new distributor cap/points/condenser/rotor/plugs/plug wires & 50s after-market hi-output coil
Drivetrain:
Transmission professionally rebuilt in late 2008. New clutch release bearing also installed.
Wheels:
15” wheels w/ 820x15 wide whitewall bias ply tires. Tires are in good shape and have lots of tread. Brakes re-done in 2008 (new shoes/wheel cylinders/brake lines & rebuilt master cylinder) & the car stops on a dime. Brakes run on silicone brake fluid. New hollywood flipper hubcaps.
Body:
Excellent chrome. Stainless trim is very good with the exception of the small pieces above the rear gravel shields…these will need to be replaced or professionally restored. Body is solid & straight with no body filler or rust cutout. Some rust under the doors at the front lower corners. Paint is good but not perfect; there are some scratches and touch up spots. Note the rare window vent visors; these were all rechromed last year at a cost of $400.
Electrical:
6V system. Battery 1.5 years old. Lights all work, except dome light. Radio works (a rarity) and has an input for a CD Discman or MP3 player. Speedometer needs a new head (already has a new cable), and the temp gauge need to be repaired.
Other:
Fuel tank removed and professionally cleaned in fall, 2008. New sender installed. New dual exhaust with steeel-pak mufflers and chrome tips ($700).

This car is a real headturner and an excellent candidate to be a mild, traditional-style 40s kustom or restored as original.
Priced right at $25,000.
