Hello my name is chuck and I'm from Port Perry Ontario. I was introduced to this site last weekend by Techhead, he had noticed an ad that I had placed in KIJIJI looking for a parts to a project and made mention that I should drop by and take a look around.

I must say that I am happy to have found such a site to chat on and to post looking for both help and with parts for the projects I currently have on the go. You guys seem to run with some very interesting folks that I'm sure I'll have both the pleasure of talking and cruising with.

I'm a long haul truck driver by profession, And a tinkerer by nature,

I always say I can take anything apart, but I can't promise it will always get back together and make it work.

This is something I hope to help change with my two boys before they decide they want to help out dad while I'm not home and take apart the lawnmower or snow blower.

When I first got here this past weekend I went for a surf thru the wanted and for sale ads searching out the parts I had been looking for on the other site and stumbled on my car from last summer that i had for sale ( notable classifieds ) Rust Bucket... I had to laugh that the old cutlass was still looking at me even after I had sold her.

Anyhow not to take up too much time here I will say thank-you for providing this site for everyone to enjoy, I sure that there are several Cruise Ins and Shows that we will have the time to meet and greet with one another this next season.

I'll post some pictures of the "in progress car once I figure out how to re-size some pictures, I still have trouble turning on the computer , let alone type anything with more than two fingers. And thank goodness we have spell check<--- my very bestest friend.

My current project is building a jig for the tube straight axle with chevy spindles for a gasser style car. I'm keeping a full picture diary of how this turns out, It's being put together for a '72 Super Beetle. <--- (Insert laughter here) with a mild forward chop just to soften the roundness of the roof line. and a 1 piece fiberglass lift off nose.

I figure a Willy's Or Topolino had people scratching there heads 50 sum years ago, so why not a Beetle. Its about the same size and fit and finish parts such as glass, chrome, sheetmetal are all readily available , Why Not!

We are also building the mild steel 2' X 3" frame from scratch to support the narrowed 9" and the SBC 400ci motor. and the fore mentioned straight axle.

Nothing too outrageous just a street driver set up.

And I'll bet I don't pass another one.

Hey Chuck, welcome on here. Long haul trucker you say,,,,,,,,,,,,well I'm a trucker too, but more local. Got two "B" train chip haulers, and 55Buick's another one also. Sounds like you've got a nice project going too. Post some pictures in the Discussion/Chat section. Just open a Photobucket account (it's free) and post the pictures there. Check the bottom of the first page on here (About photos) for info on how to post. If your ever through Kamloops, give a shout and I'll meet you for coffee.

Welcome,
Another Chuck from On. ............. cool.

I've often thought about a bug bodied gasser, long frame rails with wheelwell headers protruding out the sides of the truck area, now engine compartment, much like a Topolino.

Hi there
I was reading your post and what caught my eye was your building an 2x3 tube frame for it. I am sort of doing the same thing, for a Ford Falcon 65 Convertible.
Welcome. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m136/Abone_2006/IMG_0921.jpg

I like that jig you have made up for your frame, The boys down in Ajax that are welding my 2" X 3" frame are using their welding table to make my simple rectangle and rear kick up. The VW is only 13 feet long and I can bring the frame back home with the truck. I picked up another set of Chevy spindles from a neighbor of my dads and am going to get serious with the tube axle next weekend. Still looking over the internet for the king pin angle so the spindles sit straight . Anyone here know this angle??? Or a place that I might get some good info.

Thanks Chuck
