Been a hot rodder since 1964, but that was before I could legally drive... At Present the inventory includes a 57 Ford Del Rio wagon-lowered, flamed, disc brakes, black upholstery, 292 auto with 16" A/r salt mags and Big O tires (natch)! In the garage is a 1933 Ford cowl and rear panel that is scheduled to be a track roadster with big block dodge power. This one has been usurped by the latest, thou.... a 1919 Dodge touring front 1/2 with a CCR frame kit, and a bunch of old stuff from the garage pile to make a "D" bukat c/w 360 dodge,727 trans, 8 3/4 A-100 rear diff.
why not fill in your profile so we all know who we are taiking to ?

Giday and welcome here Gerry, things are looking go there with the bucket etc. Now you might be able to tell me, what is the difference between a Del Rio and a Ranch Wagon. I had a 55 Ranch Wagon years ago and when you call yours a Del Rio it interests me. I know the ones with the wood grain down the side and 4 doors were called a Country Esquire. Some guys in N.Z. used to fit twin head lights to the 57 Fords and they looked alright to. They fitted right in under the head light peek the 57 has.
But you know that was in New Zealand I had that 55 an here in Oz they didn't get them at all, mind you there have been a few private imports over the recent years to Oz.
Have fun here Gerry I know I have meet some really nice folks from this site including some of the PTP (Pine Tree People), so not you are a PTP in case you didn't know what a PTP was, and the folks from Ontario are Onion people.
Cheers, John

Hi John. Thks for the note on 57 station wagons. My understanding is that the Del Rio was developed as a direct competitor to the Chev nomad and that required (in Ford's eyes) upscale trim, and that it would always be a 2 door. I think ranch wagons came in 2 and 4 doors. I have a 2 door wagon out back, and it has a way less trim than the Rio. The Del Rio has that gold trim that the top of the line fairlanes used between the two strips of chrome on the sides.I hear your comment on headlights, but a prefer the singles on the 57. I just bought a repro emblem for the tailgate on e-bay and it is coming from New Zealand so I can see wagons and utes (rancheros) are popular in your part of the world.

George, I live in the land of Oz now days, I get on real well with my family, they live in New Zealand and I live in Australia, hahahahaha. We have the ute here in Oz and it's called a Mainline here, I understand the Mainline there as being a sedan. Oz didn't get all the models N.Z got because of Oz having their own car manufacturers so for instance the 59 here is actually the same body as a 55 Customline but they used the Meteor trim and called it a star model but they still had the round parking lights. The 59 Fairlane (Tank Fairlane they called it here) didn't come out until 60 or 61.
I always thought that the 2 door wagon was called the Ranch Wagon but then again we only got mainly the base model cars there. There were very few 4 door wagons that made their way to N.Z. That is interesting about the Del Rio so it was really the same as a Bel Air so to speak and the standard Ranch wagon was the equivilent to the 210 Chevy. I find that sort of info very interesting. The scary thing is I was a very young kid and remember looking (most likely touching as well) at the badge on a 56 Customline and my Dad telling me that is the new badge for the OHV V8 and pointing out the flat parking lights so it was a 56 which was also the first 12 volt Henry down under.
It bought back memories when my son was about 3 years old (he is now nearly 33) with him touching some mag wheels on a car in the street and me telling him what they brand and style were.
Anyway all the best and thanks for that Information.
Cheers,John
