Gearheads in North Dakota sell a modified 605 Chevelle box that will bolt in your '55 and the pitman arm even hooks up to your drag link. Cost is about $1000.00. I think, however, that some welding is done on the box case.
Wurth Industries in the US sells a Cavalier rack bolt in kit, but requires at least three u joints to connect the column down to the rack.
I decided on my '54 that I will just put up with the standard steering which so far after 2000 miles of driving is great, except tight parking spots.
Trying to find an original 55 power setup is almost impossible and very costly as well.

Now, I know that the shoebox fords (49 to 51) are different, but I have a book by tex smith ( somewhere in my junk) that I read that you can put a ford f100 power steering box into them and it bolts in..... now I read it once, and it took me re looking for it 20 times to find it again in the same book... there isn't alot of info... but if you got one hanging around... try it!

Rebel, I have a good friend with a 55. The thing was a real pain to man-handle. We pulled the steering box off last year and he got a rebuilt one. The thing turns like a dream now. I think if you had it rebuilt or get one already done you will be more than happy with it.

I'm doin up a 56 right now and using a Cavalier R&P, but a cheaper and quicker fix is using a Granada/Monarch unit. It bolts on with the exception of having to make a slight change at the idler arm connection. Once you have the donor parts up there, it will be self explanitory.

Yes, it's just the same as a 55 - 56 except the idler as stated.
