Late next spring, will be embarking on a 2400 mile 1-way trek to the
2009 F-100 Nationals in Knoxville, TN. There might be two of us, maybe three of us cruisin' together.
Starting to plan and collecting stuff for the trip.
So, need yur help in what should one take on a trip of this length, other than the obvious stuff such as:
cleaning supplies, various fliuds (for the truck), sockets, wrenches, screwdivers, pliers & cutters, bolts, nuts, screws, cotter pins, fuses, ass't electrical terminals and a couple rolls of wire, electricans tape and of course...a rodder's friend...duct tape plus a couple of a "tire in a can". (all ready carry this stuff in the truck).
Also thinking off a small mini-floor jack and a couple of jack stands.
But what else should one include in the goodie bag? Spare wiper blades, fan belts???
Thanks in advance for yur help and suggestions.

You need to carry your list for Rodside Assistance:D(.http://www.canadianrodder.com/rodside/listing.pdf)

I used to carry reflectors or flashing lights but now I like to carry a couple of those collapsible traffic cones with reflectors on them so you can put them out in the day as well as night if needed. I broke down in traffic once and people almost rearend you as they might not see your small hotrod taillights flashing in the daylight. Put the cones out and you can give yourself a buffer zone.

A list of part numbers of the parts that are likely to break. Things like the fan belt, upper and lower rad hoses, spark plugs, rotor, cap, ball joint, tie rod end, shocks, etc. The little things that are easy to fix, but not as easy to get if the parts guy doesn't already know his stuff. We all know already that the pimply faced kids at the parts store only search parts by application in their computer. If its not in the computer, then it must not exist. In a hot rod, you need the part number so they can get it that way. Its saved me more than once.

Also a set of Wheel Bearings. I guess because you will be in your truck there wont be a problem carrying a spare wheel each, hopefully you all have the same wheel stud pattern. Something else that could be good would be a Snatch Em Strap, I guess you guys call them something else but basically an elasticised tow rope. Yes take the Fan belts and even if it is just 1 wiper blade. Make sure you have tons of water with you and not only for the car, also so you can drink it if you do get holed up somewhere.

I used to carry nearly every tool known to man but in recent years I just take enough for what I might need. Another thing worth putting in that doesn't take up much room is a Multi meter. When we did our first run in the 33 the head lights failed because they were stuck on high beam and low beam and melted the globe holder so I had to go and buy a small multi meter to find out what the problem was and it was a faulty brand new relay. I have never had that problem in a Rod before.

You'll be right mate just give the truck a good service and repack the wheel bearings if they haven't been done for a while and drive around town then recheck them for adjustment. Hahaha, you wouldn't think we have just opened a new bearing and engineering shop now would you:D.

A rain coat don't forget a rain coat, that way you will have fine weather all the way along.

Cheers and I hope you have a nice safe trip. John

OB56; On trips like this it has been my experience that no matter what I stash in the trunk it's always the the wrong thing. I think last time it was my single wire alternator that calved on me. Two days to get another one in so I switched it over to the 3 wire. Sounds like you have a great trip planned. Knoxville is great town. And only 7 hours from the Onion Patch.

On a trip of the magnitude you are planning, leave enough room for those items you are sure to purchase while you are away. Have a safe and trouble-free trip.

you forgot the most important thing "ME" lol just kidding.I would love to go on that trip!!! Just like aero said what ever you bring will be the wrong thing! So take a good attitude and leave your worrys at home, always look at the bright side, the break downs will come and go but the memorys will last a life time

From an unfortunate experience, if you've fabricated alternator, psteer mounts etc. and have combed the walls at Lordco to get just the right "fit", WRITE DOWN THE PART NUMBER!! Also applies to rad hoses, universals, etc.

bottle of tire sealant
cig lighter/ battery powered air pump and trouble light
deoderant
music for each passengers taste
some nerf baseball bats so the mid trip dissagreement doesnt get too outta hand
make rest, fuel , bathroom breaks all in one stop , not like get gas here , drive across highway to get smokes , then some one has bladder control issues ten minutes later kinda thing
15 minutes on side of road is equal to 45 mins lost driveing time
extra money for strippers an hookers
take time to stop along the way an get out an do something interesting ie county fair , truck pull , dirt track races etc etc to break up the ride an ease tensions in back .
An a lil advice from axle rose ... everybody needs a little patience ..77.
