Was wondering if any of you guys have purchased Macgyvers tubular
A - arms, and if so what are your impressions about them?
am wondering how their bushing system worked out, particularly as they are using O.E.M. style rubber bushings (rear control arm style) as opposed to the polyurethane bushings that it seems all other mfgs. are utilizing; ie: heidts, tci, etc.
are these bushings ridgid enough for a combo street/strip anglia or are they too flexy??
also, they are using a cast urethane lower spring seat and was wondering how that is standing up..
thanks..

I watched a chevelle at the strip one sunday and when he left the line the wheel hop was so severe that the tire had to move at least 3 inches back and fourth in the wheel well until the teeth broke off the ring gear.I went over to his pit and saw the damage I could'nt believe with the million bucks in blown big block, tricked out powerglide, etc he still had the rubber bushings in the rear control arms!In your case I think you will want a little give so the car is driveable so the urathane ones should be good.Rubber may be to soft for the times when you will want to mash the gas.I have installed a lot of thier stuff and have found it very good

Hello dusty,
I concur with Davey on the quality of McGyvers welded products.
My son J'onn and myself dropped into the shop for a visit, and when they found out we are both T.I.G. welders, got the full tour. There is an old adage about weld quality; if it looks like a good weld, chances are it is a good weld.
This in no way should be your guide to weld quality assurance, but I saw every weld was as good as the last, and I'm not too easily impressed by everything I see. Talk to Harold over there, he will do you right.

Thanks....I have actually been thru their shop a few times, an aquaintance was formerly employed there....I agree their work is clean...myself, I got my journeymans cert. in welding 30 years ago and have a lot of exp. in all welding processes and as well am not easily impressed...
my concern is with the style of bushings they have chosen to use and the cast polyurethane spring seat....the spring seat being "experimental" for them and was hoping for feedback from someone that has actually bought and put their a-arms to use for awhile....
personally, I think OEM style rubber pivot bushings may fare better than urethane as they are designed for torsional flex...

I've a McGyvers must 2 front end in my '49 f-47 thats been in place for a decade now. Not tubular a arms but one serious problem I had was with the U brackets which mount the power steering rack to the crossmember. They cracked along the bends though the welds are fine. I've noticed that later McGuyver fronts still have the same U brackets. I emailed them twice to flag the problem but had no reply.

The company is now owned by new people and are having their laser and metalwork done at a different shop. We are looking into new upgrades and re-engineering new parts. This is the first time we have seen any complaints on this and would appreciate any feedback. We never saw those emails you are talking about and if you would re-send them to info@macgyvers.com that would be great!

Been pricing out a front end for my anglia last couple of weeks and the macgyvers seems like a top notch product if you dont like the rubber press em out and machine up a set of polyurethane bushing and you got em! dale gerrys has a wicked little setup too for the little car for about 48 bucks more. with the dollar drop and all the charges coming over the border i dont think i'll be getting an american made product. Macgyvers is in edmonton and dalegerrys is in kelowna both about the same distance from me.
