"The Hairy Canary"
Photos and details provided by Dave Love

Originally owned and raced by Bert Straiton from '62 to '68, the Hairy Canary is now owned and is being restored by Dave Love of Vancouver, B.C.

In it's day, The Canary raced at Mission Raceway, SIR and Arlington, Washington. The truck was powered by an Enderle injected 301small block Chevy and was backed by a Saginaw 4 speed and a '57 Chevy rearend.

The interior consisted of a steel tube type kitchen chair with the legs shortened, welded to plates and bolted to the floor (things were a tad different then). Dave isn't sure how many races were won, but, the truck ran in the 11's.

The truck is currently being restored as last seen in the fall of '68 when Bert sold it to attend the Barber school.

Dave plans to run it in 2002 at nostalgia events like the CHRR and Van Isle Dragway's reunion.
